Brown Recluse Spider bites will also look like that initially... if they don't get worse.

Twice?!? You need to call Corky's Pest Contro.
i assume it was a black widow because thats what i found under the couch at my gf house, but yeah, it was huge and hurt really bad, i now have a red pimple-like bump that needs to be removed surgically-----those bites are no joke

Camp Pendleton has plenty of them. Although it's not a place that everyone gets the privlege of visiting.
I was bitten on my face by a Brown Recluse in Michigan several years back the swelling and it was so bad by mid morning I could not see out my left eye because of all the swelling.

As I said. (http://www.ipm.ucdavis.edu/PMG/PESTNOTES/pn7468.html)
It is possible, though very unlikely, that a recent transfer to Pendleton could be bitten by a Brown Recluse while unpacking boxes transported from the Midwest.

There are plenty of these Brown Wonders in 29 Palms, they hang out with their cousins the Desert Recluse.
I also found a Brown Recluse in my Apt when I was neighbors with Steve, in Vista.

After reading the article I may have "mis-identified" my spider in the Apartment, but most of my "encounters" from a Brown Recluse happened when somebody was diagnosed with a Brown Recluse Spider bite while in the field. In some cases causing Celulitis <--sp?
Back on topic, That is a sweet pic of the Black widow.

Sorry, I wasn't intending to question you, just saying that karl's bite was unlikely to be a brown recluse bite.
And yeah, that spider gives me the creeps.
heh.

i saw a couple of those in iraq and kuwait, those thinks are huge although it looks like two in that pic, one of those was next to my rack one evening when i had to use the head, let me tell you after that night i never got up in the middle of the night again. i belive if i am not mistaken they are camel spiders.

They're fine when they're outside, I am prettty careful about reaching under the ledge, under the grill and other hiding spots. But this one was hanging off the side of my wife's nightstand. If it was a little farther off the carpet, I would have killed it with a blowtorch. I have no problem with spiders, but black widows are CREEPY.
I have heard some crazy stories about brown recluses. It may be an urban legend, but there as one case where a guy was bit on the leg, and in the end, he lost/had to lose the lower half of one leg, the lower half of one arm and the tp of his nose.
NOT COOL.
This ugly f***er was on my fence last spring.

Holy Christ, what the hell is that?!
And for some NASTY pics look at image 6 and 7 on this (http://www.andrew.cmu.edu/user/chp/brown%20recluse/) link ...
I had no idea any sort of spider could be dangerous, now I don't like them as much ...
Too cold for them up here, but I walked into spider webs all night at my job in Carlsbad this summer, always freaked me out.

For me the answer would lie in powerful sedatives. That is, unless they had to pound adrenaline directly into my heart.
