Very slow is a huge understatement. I also couldn't upload an image to the member gallery.

Here's the real question though...

Why is it slow? (Bandwidth, internal network messes up, servers misconfigured, etc)

Can't answer that, but it isn't just from home. This post is coming from work and I'm still watching the smileys loading. Most definately on the servers end.

Well, I timed clicking on a post. From the click on the link to the page, then the page finished loading...

drumroll please...

1 minute 45 seconds.

But, if you hit stop, then refresh on the browser everything loads fine. To quote Dan, it is like the site gets stuck. You have to give it a little kick to get it moving again. Oh, and don't even try PM's, the forum is nothing compared to the slowness of the PM's. :(

Here is my trace route if it helps any:

See if its any faster for you.

MySQL was all monkey assed. Indexes were a little off.

Greenwing
01-03-2006, 07:42 PM
The monkey asses need a little smack. Very weird behavior going on. I loaded up the myspace freaks post with tons of pics. It came up at normal speed. Then I went to a random post in the Volvo forum, slow as hell.

ncttrnl

It could also be some of the caching and cron jobs that help the site run a little faster are catching up. The cache would have been 3-4 days old when the site came up and may have been purged. As stuff gets hit and subsequently cached, it should speed up a bit more but I'll poke around some more.

Assuming you aren't getting funky with the firewalling or routing...

It could be a bad nic or a bad port on your switch. Try changing ports and see if it helps.

strange how the ping is pretty darn good

but if you do a ping to the site for a minute, and you notice it losses a packet every 10 pings or so

Found an interesting bug, happens in Firefox not sure about IE. The smiley box overlays the input box in the PM's. It doesn't prohibit typing out the message though.
