mark III tach & speedo prob

Hey, a buddy of mine has a mark III (man jetta) and his tach and speedo are not registering anything (they don't signal speed or engine speed when car is in motion)

any ideas?

btw its a 2L manny

Check the solder points on the back of the cluster. There are 2 sets, of 2 rows about an inch and a half long , make sure to check those.
