what would cause your car to hunt for an idle speed and if you blew a head gasket would that be something that would?

Most likely your ICV (Idle Control Valve). They get gummed up. Spraying it out with carb cleaner might work for a while. Eventually they need replacement.

on the Rado the ICV is called an ISV (idle stabilizer valve), but yeah Dan is right, spray it ouy and see if that cures your problem

or another very common corrado problem is vacuum leaks in some of the hoses at the top of the engine bay...

Will your car idle at all?
A guy up here with a 16v couldn't get his to idle after we flew up I-5 en masse [at rather illegal speeds]. Turned out the wiring decided to fray just enough. Some splicing and dicing fixed that quickly.

That's not just Corrados. ;) First thing I've done with every dub I've had is check/replace all of the cloth wrapped vacuum lines and fuel injector seals.

yea my car will idle but it will slowly go up in rpm as if i am lightly touching the gas pedal and then it will drop down to normal idle rpm and then start that all over again. so i am not sure what is going on.

Bro, with a G60 Corrado there are SOOOOOOO many possibilities that cause that. Head over to vwvortex.com and read the FAQs in the Corrado forum, there is a long post in it that's a guide to troubleshooting your G60. Print it out, memorize it, learn it, live it, love it. About 31 things you need to look at to be sure your car is tuned and running properly.
