A bunch of us are going to camp for the weekend. Is anybody else interested? We can have up to 30 people. The max cost for the weekend is $33 per person/couple for the weekend (Friday - sunday). If we get 15 people/couples then it will be $9 for the weekend.

Here's where we're going to stay:
Lake Casitas (http://www.casitaswater.org/lake%20casitas/lake%20recreation.htm)

http://www.casitaswater.org/images/lake%20casitas/camp%20grounds%20map/jay.jpg

I have reserved spots 8-10. That will allow for 6 cars & 18 people. The lake only allows 2 cars per site so as we add cars (if you are unwilling to leave your at the front gate) we will have to add sites. As I get more confirmations I will add sites to the reservation.

This location is roughly 20min from the GTG.
Facilities include restrooms, water (no hook-ups), fire rings, tables, and showers.

I will need to collect the money asap. I will need $28 from each person/car to start with. The cutoff date is March 20, 2006 because I need to make the reservation.

Parking lot is regular car accessible, correct? Just so people know that they can roll in regular cars and not require off-road ability.

Yup, parking lot is your standard paved parking lot. Nothing special

Are there showers? I'm in anyway, just curious.

Also the site says the park is closed for storm damage?

It says the North Beach Campground is closed. We'll be staying at the Ventura River Group Camp which is open. The site doesn't say anything about showers but I'll find out tomorrow.

Is that a must for everybody? If so I'll look elsewhere, it just might be more expensive. The other issue is alot of the other places are first come first serve and don't allow reservations.

There's a lake about 15 minutes from the fairgrounds also but I just figured camping on the beach would be fun... Let me know guys.

Cool, showers would be nice, but it's not make or break. Plus if it's first come first serve maybe I can get there Friday morning, let me know. Mapquest says it's about a 2 1/2 hour drive so I could be there by 8 or 9am.

Showers are preferrable. But bathrooms are necessary. I can always have a ghetto bath in the sink if need be :)

The other issue with the first come first serve places is they don't have a group area so we would have to get a spot for every 2 cars or 4 people.

Let me check into the lake. It's pretty nice up there (haven't been in a few years though). Also the lake does not allow swimming because it's used for potable water.

The problem with those places is 2 fold:
1. They don't have group sites so everybody would have to get their own site.
2. They don't allow reservations so there is no way to be certain we'd be able to get enough sites for everybody.

I've camped at every spot along the beach between Ventura & Gaviotta(north of Santa Barbara) and think this is the best fit for us.

Well, looks like I was a day late. The group sites at Emma Wood are no longer available for that weekend. Looks like I'll have to go with the backup spot: Lake Casitas. It's a little farther away (20 minutes) but they have group sites and showers. The only downfall is their group sites are to large/expensive for us so we'll have to do individual sites. They allow 2 cars/6 people per site. The first car is included in the price, the second car is $10 per night extra. I'll have some more specific pricing info later today.

Man, i really wish those other spots accepted reservations!!

Anyway, here's the new price:
$28 per Car for the weekend.

The good thing about this location is we'll have showers.
If everybody is cool with the new location/price then I'm going to reserve 3 spots (8-10 on map above) If we get more people then we'll add site 7 then 6 etc.

For those of you interested, I was in Sam's Club the other day and they had the Swiss Army tents pretty cheap if you need one. The ranged from 40 bucks for a small tent to about 140 for a larger tent.

Not fantastic tents but cheap and good enough for the occasional camper... I was tempted to pick one up just to have for picnics and things.

I can post pictures I took with my phone if anyone is interested.
