in the UrQ yesterday!!!!!!!

F#$^%^^@ idiot! I am sorry, because I try to be tolerant of elderly drivers ('cause I'm gonna be one someday!) but this sux! I am in the parking lot of our local market, stopped along with 2 other cars ahead of me waiting to cruise for a parking spot. To my right is the front row of angled spots. This guy just simmply backs out into my rear panel. Now, for those of you who don't know, last time I checked real UrQ fenders are REALLY expensive! Hopefully it can be "massaged" out, but there's no way in hell someone's going to drill, pop out and bondo THIS car! argh!

This is what happens when your restoration/project car takes on the responsibility of being your daily driver :(

ok, had to vent.........................

What you didn't pull out a gun and just cap him in his frigin head!!!!!!!!
I know front fenders are like $1000.00 each. I can't even fathom what the rear would be if you can even get them anymore.
From all the parts I have been ordering for my Urq the past few times they were the last ones in the US?
If i can help in any way let me know!

Steve, look at Will's post and you'll see why I am so bummed!

Will, it can "probably" be pulled out, but we'll have to see.

It sucks when the person that hits you can't even remember his own damn phone number..............some people shouldn't be driving

Limited. historical, blah blah blah ... and make sure its taken care of.For some reason I highly doubt that, I'm thinking they think it is just another old Audi, of course with freaking expensive repair costs, but the limited, historical part, I just don't think they will treat it that way, heck it's from the 80s! That ain't old at all. Limited Historical, is like 50 yrs old at least I think.

Back on topic, that has happened to me in high school when I drove our 66 bug, was in a plaza and some person just decides to back up and straight into my front bumper. Of course this is a 66 bug, with plentiful replacement parts, but the same thing happened. I feel your anger Julie I really do, I know you love that car to death.

I tried to get limited historical insurance on the Carrera but they looked at my record and laughed. Besides they said 84 was still to new to be a classic/rare car, so I got them to give me insurance for full replacment value for a "like kind quality" as they said. which works for me but they want all recepits and they want to photograph the whole car.

BTW........is this the way to country kitchen buffet?

Here's what I heard after my accident....

No matter what it costs... You are entitled to have your car put back to the original condition it was in before the accident. Even if its more than the blue book price of the vehicle.

Make sure you get them to fix it right.

I will disagree with you till no end!!
If I recall correctly their were less then 350 Urq’s brought into the US with 1983 title and they were all HAND BUILT. At just under 1 each day I would say that is LIMITED!
Specially compared to the rest of the cars being made today are being put out by about 300 each day by a machine and I am sure I am low balling that number of 300.

HISTORICAL in California is 25 years old or more. And in some other states it is less then that so she is dam close to being Historical in this state!

My bad, my bad, I misposted, I meant to just say historical, what am I thinking it not being limited. Like I said I THINK it was 50 yrs or more, but it turns out to be half that? Anyways, what does registering your car as a historical vehicle entail? Are there added costs? Is insurance like out the window? I'm sure there's a big reason you don't see a lot of 70s cars regsitered as historical, shoot we could register our 66 bug as historical then.

Any vehicle which was manufactured after 1922, is at least 25 years old, and is of historic interest qualifies for the historical plates. All cars over 25 years old qualify for the plates.
There are no mileage restrictions or stock modification restrictions as far as I can tell. The second page of DMV Form 17a states that vehicles may only be driven in historical exhibitions, parades, or historic vehicle club activities. However, the California vehicle code states in Division 3, Article 8, section 5004, paragraph F that a vehicle is of historic interest if it is collected, restored, maintained, and operated by a collector or hobbyist principally for purposes of exhibition and historic vehicle club activities. I assume that the vehicle code overrides the statement on the form.
To get a historical plate for your car or other qualified cars, you need to get the Special License Plate Application (Form 17a), fill it out and take it down to your local DMV with a check. Within two months, the plates will be mailed to you.

hmm, I wonder if my dad's old 1974 yellow Mazda truck qualifies...now if it only ran, I could take it out to some parades. :)

heh, I am CERTAIN that I qualify as a "collector or hobbyist", shit all they'd have to do is look at how many Audi's are registered to me............

Yea, you got to watch out for us old ELDERLY drivers. Let's see, the last time I backed into someone, just the other day, funny car with bulging fenders, some irate lady, and oh well, I tend to forget........

Sorry about the car. It is like you need radar to drive your car these days. They are coming at you from all sides. Sometimes, I just don't believe how people drive these days, and are not aware of what is around them.

As far as insurance goes, I have my insurance company take pictures of my cars every year. That way I won't hear, "how do we know the car was in the same condition", and they have a copy of all my receipts in there little hands. When my van was totaled, and I bought it back, I ended up with 3000 dollars more, because I made them add up all the receipts. Just a thought.
