me too. its lighter, and has that bitchin feel that seems absent in the new ones, and I think I've driven and installed enough superchargers, suspensions, brakes yada yada in just about every combination to both cars over the years. The only serious + of the E46 M3 from a performance point I can think of is its more controlable in a drift and a stiffer chassis (but you pay with the weight penalty thats hard to get rid of). now if only you could import a canadian E36 M3 that had the real M motor instead of a stroked M52and full floating rotors! that would be the shit! http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Flats/1128/m3_engine.jpg

I like the E36 M better, one of the reasons being it's offered in a 4dr!

Yes, 4 door :)
I love the look of the E46 M3's, but for the E36 i think is more of a enthusiast car, more stuff to do on it ... i cant see over-modding a new car

i like the E46 M3 better than the E36 M3 but the best M3 ever is the E30 M3. BMW has yet to design a car that will be anything close to what the E30 M3 was in its time. Factory widebody and a power-to-weight ratio that could make any performance-minded person cream their pants. HAHA

E30 with the Evolution carbon wide body and stroked 2.5L engine would be my pick but since it's not up there, E36 of course...just check my sig! I love the slightly boxy look of the E36 over the E46 and yes Bugzy is right; the E46 at least for now is mainly for show

no doubt any new M car is better than the one it replaces but any M car be it M3, M5, M6 and those "off" M cars like the M 635i sport and M 540i sport is bound to be a great car to own...I really don't think you can fully appreciate BMWs for all they can offer unless you have driven an M car. Enough of the rambling...E36 is still my fav!
