So I took a little road trip to central Cali this weekend with my wife and 2yo boy in the R32 this weekend. Keep in mind, we've got the baby sunlight shades in the windows, car crammed full of stuff for the trip... if I could have hung a sign on the car saying "no races today, transporting family" it couldn't have been any more blatant. We've got the cruise control and V1 on, staying in the #2 lane as much as we could... just cruising.
So the first ricer flyby is from a brand new Civic Si.. .guy comes up alongside, paces us while pointing and trying to get us to run. My wife shakes her head no, points at our little guy asleep in the car seat, and waves him off. So he slows way down behind us, and sure enough he gives us the ricer flyby and flashes his hazards. Then he slows down and as we catch up with him (cruise control is on, we're maintaining a constant speed) he sprints off again and flashes hazards. Does this about 4 times. My wife gets annoyed to the point that she's almost egging me on to go banzai and show him the backside of the R as it disappeared quickly in front of him. But I'm pretty determined to not kill my family driving stupidly for the sake of bruising the ego of someone whose life sucks enough, because they bought a Honda. Finally the guy gets off the road.
Next up, a silver A3 Golf decides he's going to do the same thing. Nearly move for move. But we get into traffic, and we get into the carpool lane and he can't. 20 minutes later he catches up and gives us a glorious ricer flyby, nearly losing control over a road imperfection, barely avoiding wiping out in the fast lane. LOL! he slowed down and moved over several lanes, we didn't see him catch up again.
Later on we passed a brand new BMW 330i, he was doing 65 in a 70. Kinda weird. Didn't think anything of it. But we had the cruise control on, just went on by... then about 5 minutes later, he does a flyby at 120mph+ in the #3 lane, nearly hitting some slow moving traffic. A little later we catch up to him, still just moving along at cruise control, and he does the sprint away and slow down thing several times. The last time we got close to him, it was open freeway with no visible traffic ahead of us, up on the 99 approaching Fresno. I gave in to the temptation and nailed it, passed him and left him easily and didn't let up until he was well behind us. But then when i slowed down to 80 again, he gave us a parting loser flyby.
On the way back, we had a couple integras, a MBZ CLK500, and an Altima 3.5 doing the same thing. But I didn't pay much attention to them that time, my boy was awake for the return trip and we spent the whole time singing and playing car games.
Anyways, just thought I'd share.
