View Full Version : Spring Julian Run

Since the Big Socal Euro GTG is still 2 months away and I'm finally upgrading my suspension I'd thought I'd start talking Julian run.....

taking a page from BoostedBoogie

What: Julian Run
When: Sunday April 30, 2006
Where: From TBD to Dudley's Bakery to Julian

The official date for this cruise will be April 30, 2006. It's the last Sunday of the month.

We will be meeting @ TBD at 7:30am and we are hoping to leave by 8am. In the AM, I will be providing maps to Dudley's and then to the lunch spot from there including directions, rules, etc. There will also be some quick reminders before we head off, just in case there are those who like to lurk from other forums, not read the guidelines/rules, are tagging along w/ friends, etc.

Address for meeting spot:
TBD (http://www.mapquest.com/)

Recommendations/Suggestions: It's recommended to swap phone numbers w/ other people that you meet. This is just in case some of the group gets seperated, someone gets a flat, or if you are lost. If anyone has access to any walkie talkies, PLEASE post up and let us know. We would like to have as many walkie talkies as possible. The channel will be 11.0.

Achtung! Rules:
1. The majority of people attending this cruise are SocalEuro. Because of this, we encourage to not be reckless. Please no burnouts or donuts when at a parking lot or making a turn. Doing so will put other drivers, the public and yourself at risk.
2. We are cruising at a moderate speed. We plan to obey the speed limit when there are other drivers on the road. They own the road as much as we do, so please do not constantly weave in and out of traffic, cut drivers off, or endanger anyone. If you feel the need to speed ahead of the pack to take motion shots on the freeway, by all means do so. That is encouraged actually, but anyone wanting to hit 100+ speeds will be alone on this cruise.
3. First stop will be Dudley's Bakery. If you feel the need to show off your sound system to a friend, that's fine. Just don't leave your system bumping obnoxiously the whole time we're there. Also refer to rule #1.
Those are pretty much the guidelines we would like everyone to follow. After Dudley's, we will head to Julian for lunch, maybe a few photoshoots, and maybe if the roads are clear, some mountain runs.

About the mountain runs: If we end up going on some, there will be 2 seperate car groups. The 1st group is reserved for those who plan to drive aggressively. I was told that if we leave at 8am, we might not get a chance to do this because of other drivers occupying the road. We will see what happens when we get there. The 2nd group will be reserved for those who don't want rock chips all over their front end and just want to cruise/enjoy the scenery. After that, another stop might be made at the lunchspot just to regroup or whatever. After that, you're on your own. You can caravan back w/ friends that you've made, your fellow locals, check out the town, etc.

Just remember to have fun, meet new people, and respect those on the road with you.

I'll do my best to make it. I know those roads well and haven't had much of a chance to take my GTI out there. I use to own those roads on my sport bike but its broke so not much happens with that anymore. Hopefully there is a good turnout.

What are the roads like? I mean, is there going to be a ton of dirt/gravel all over them or are they fairly decent? I'm down either way, just wondering whether I want to go group 1 or 2. Never been out that way, that I can recall at least.

BoostedBoogie

because spring belongs to bimmerfest and sce's big GTG, we will be throwing another cruise in the summer. won't be cruising to julian for this one. we are going a different route. if you need the directions for the route planned for the last run, let me know.

roads were very clear in january should be good

There's enough traffic on the roads that they stay clean even clean enough for a sport bike so I know it will be fine for 4 wheels. There really isn't any run off thats only if you head up to palomar then it can get pretty messy sometimes.

Anyone got any good ideas for a digital camcorder mount so I can record the trip? I have a Panasonic PVGS9 it has a normal mount on the bottom and its relatively small. Not sure if there is a mount I can purchase or if I am going to have to fab one up.

I will definitely borrow that mount from you and perhaps fab up one just like it if you don't mind me doing so.

SCEuro runs are not like your typical run. You could make it in an SUV if you wanted to... we're not gonna push you to do any more than your car/conscience would allow. Trust me. I drive a 13-year-old bimmer with nearly 200k miles and I still have a great time on these runs!

TBD = To Be Determined

The mapquest thing after hitting the link should be telling you the location of the meet. You can then enter your address and it will give you a turn by turn to get to the location from your addy.

:D

The link doesn't tell me where the location is. It just goes the mapquest's home page. Although i decided to read the second page, and see that the meeting place is Brueger's bagels in RB.

I would have opted for TBA (to be announced), but that's just me.

I'm so broke right now, it's not even funny. I want to go, it just depends on money.

When you get to Ramona, turn right onto 3rd Street, then take Old Julian Highway, until it rejoins the 78! It's less traffic and more fun for that section.

you have to host them before you get to post them! hahaha
go to xs.to
upload your pics free there, then when you get the source adress, THEN you can put it in the [IMG] thiniges...
hope thats any help
