hawaii.... north shore baby! there are waves like that about a mile off of san fran also, the surfers call that area mavericks, and its supposedly the worlds deadliest wave.... but yah, every winter i used to watch the pipeline masters and the eddie aikau tournament and the faces of the waves were 30 to 50 feet tall..... that video was probably taken at Jaws, north shore of maui, and it gets that big every year..... its pretty nuts....

thats jaws in hawaii. its the opening sequence for riding giants (i think). the angle of the helicopter has alot to do with it as well. none the less a huge wave.

erik you don't surf :liar: ...j/k

but at first the movie looks fishy, like right after he lets go of the jet ski it starts to look a little computery, it looks like it could've been doctored but later on it seems alot more real, and it is definently a real video...
here's more evidence that the video could be real...

Is Jaws in/near/part of Shark Cove. I snorkeled there a few years ago. I was out there with my friend and his 2 year old. It was hard to believe that the same area sees monster waves like that. (Maybe not quite that big)

And for you non-surfers, there is an area about 100 miles off the coast of San Diego, called the Cortez Bank. It's less than 30 feet deep in some areas. (I have pictures from a helicopter) They get some massive waves out there. Some of the largest in the world, I guess.

Couldnt see the video for whatever reason, but from what others are saying, pe'ahi aka jaws on the north shore of maui sounds like a likely spot. on the right swell, that place is monsterous. I drove by it when i was there last year. kinda off the path, so you need someone that already knows where it is. Its pretty close to ho'okipa.

As for the previous comments.... Mavericks isnt really that close to san fran. Its actually in half moon bay. Maybe the spot your thinking of near san fran is ocean beach, which does get some large surf too.

And cortez bank...... it has been surfed before. brad gerlach and some of the mavericks/santa cruz crew got out there on a huge swell. theres video of it around.

If you wanna see some rather large surf around here (san diego) when theres a big swell, a few spots to check are la jolla cove, blacks beach, swamis, etc... many more to list.

Yeah, I've seen the some Cortez Bank video. It's weird to see them out there, because it looks like they should be heading into shore, but there's no shore.
