View Full Version : You may not like Japanese cars but if you had to choose...

Ted_E

...what would you drive? I actually have an appreciation for japanese cars despite my love for Euro cars as well. I guess I just love cars in general. I think japanese cars are well engineered and it's only the F&F crowd's following that gives them a bad image most of the time. Anyway, if I had to pick, it'd be Nissan S15 Silvia all the way, much better looking than the Skyline in my opinion.

oh man you hit the nail right on the head with that one...Datsun 510s are the SHIET! Hachiroku's aren't that bad either but man wehn talking about old-school JDM, it doesn't get any better than the Datsun

There's one of these up at my school, looks to be in good shape.

I'd take a CRX, or one of the RWD corollas ... I used to want an S14 240sx or an Impreza 2.5RS though, I'd take either of those as well

Unlike the Skyline, since there's no easy way to even import an S15 into the US without being charged up the butt heavily, I was thinking of buying a cheap used 95-98 240sx (S14) and doing the SR20DET swap with S15 strawberry face conversion, making it an S14.5 so to speak. About as close as you can get to a real S15 stateside.

believe it or not, that's a US Spec 240sx (S14) with entire S15 front and body kit...pretty neat huh? And these cars are only going for $5000-$8000 used on the market today.

If I had to live with a Japaneese car, I suppose I could settle for an NSX or Skyline R34, it would hurt me sooooo much to drive those cars, but i think I could survive

some of those old Datsun and Toyota cars are really nice. unfortunately they are used for stupid crap like drifting. (just as bad as the F+F dorks)

Ted_E
09-12-2004, 04:09 PM
yeah I don't really endorse drifting either...I just got pics from drifting competition cuz that's all I could find. It's a skill to be able to do that but I don't think you should make an event out of it. It should be used when absolutely needed but to make an event out of it like D1 and then saying to the F&F rebels "but don't try this on the streets" is like giving a little kid a loaded gun and telling him not to shoot

hmmm doesn't look like they sell the S15. S14 and S13 yes but from what I know, there's no company in the US that imports Silvias. Maybe I'm mistaken though, but as much as I like the car, I still wouldn't buy one even if they can import it.

I don't know about a 510, but I know you can fit a 4 point buck in the trunk of a 210.

Getting the car over here is actually really really easy, it's the registering that's the hard part. They're going for around 3-4k over there, and shipipng is another 3-4k.

RJ De Vera picked up an S13 for $1500, and had it imported for $2500 (he's got hookups though) on a recent trip to Japan. He just wants to drift it, so he doesn't have to worry about registering it, it will be a track only car. It was cheaper to buy the whole car than to just buy the swap!! FD's were going for 2500 all day long...

And it's looking more and more likely that my next car WILL be japanese. I want my friend's Protege 5 wagon (cuz it's got the MSP turbo engine swap)... i'm a wagon fiend

I must say, the american cars are pretty amazing for drifting, at least at the Formula D show.

The Viper and Rod Millen's GTO were pretty darn amazing cars. I dont think drifting is much of a true motorsport, but i dont put it down as a sport.

I would love to have a Silvia or a Skyline myself. I think skyline is overrated. But the Silvia's are beautiful and awesome.

old school japanese cars are very attractive. I loved the old old RX7's and the 510 and the datsuns.

my friend called about that toyota, i think they wanted about $8,000 for it. But about the s15's, they do sell them there , just not on the website. I picked up this mag from mitsuwa called la auto guide, shows that they sell it. I think they have 5 of them.

The engine config on those makes mods that make real power difficult, though a CT company just came out with a supposed bolt-on turbo that makes decent HP.
Stock though, they are slower than mollasses.

I'm very happy with my "other" car...an 95 Acura Legend Coupe LS, just over 70,000 miles on the clock. The last year of this car. Geeez do I baby this car. The only problem I've ever had with it is the driver's side lower seat heater failing and that was replaced under warranty. What a great car.

For Euros...my choice is the Alfa Romeo 164 S

Silvias are sweet cars. Id love one of those. Id also put an S2000 into consideration. They handle good, rear wheel drive, 240hp from a 4cyl all motor, and you cant knock the shifter. Gotta be one of the sweetest shifters Ive ever used. Lots of tuning capability with them too.
