My tranny pops out of 1st gear from a dead stop MOST of the time.
Sometimes I can get it to engage rarely.

100% of the time it DOES engage, but ONLY downshifting into 1st.
I changed to a synthetic oil today to see if the oil was just old but that
didn't solve anything. Motor and tranny mounts look good. No rips or any chunks missing.

It's been doing that since I've had the car about 6-8 mounths ago.

If your linkage is ok, its time to pull the tranny and open it up.

sounds like your 1st gear has been hanging around my 5th gear

synchro is done ....what are you doing downshifting into 1st that will pretty much guarantee synchro damage

lol.

Well downshifting is the ONLY way to get into first so that tells me the synch. is working fine.
If the synch was messed up bad enough that it wouldn't go into first then why does it ALWAYS go in downshifting?
I'm not expert but that makes sense to me.

I'll check out the linkage and see if it's bent or anything.
I still don't understand why It slips in just fine only on downshifts. that has to
be the key somehow to someone that knows about trannys. I can also SOMETIMES get it to go into 1st from a dead stop.
Like it doesn't go in all the way.

The gear itself is good. If it was the selecter fork it would never go into 1st nomatter what I did.
