iam new to my engine bay and all so if i sound like an idiot, oh well.
i just changed some basic things on my 86 gti 1.8 8v CIS engine.
-spark plugs (0.028 gap)
-plug wires (bosch)
-motor oil
-oil filter
-fuel filter
-distributor and rotor. (by the way, i accidently removed the whole distributor of, oops)
-air filter

Now i tried to start the car and it only cranks up but no start.
I charged the battery as well and no hope.

Before I even touched the car it would run, until one day it would turn off on the idle, eventually, i heard a loud bang that came from the airbox when i was turning the car back on. thats when i got the car home and i changed what i did.

my oxs sensor light is on as well.

any ideas? thanks!

Since you removed the distributor your timing could be off now

Along with the timing being off...

Check the firing order. Left to right as you stand infront of the engine and on the distributor cap: 1-3-4-2.

How long have you had it cranking to start? After changing the fuel filter it can take some time to fill the system again and have fuel at the fuel distributor.

well i did follow the firing order 1-3-4-2.
and i tried starting it 4 times i believe. but no luck yet.
i will double check my wires and look into whether me removing the entire distributor set-off the timing. thanx for ur ideas!

also i hate to say this but last time i used bosh plugs it messed my car up alot... i change to i think at the time was just normal plugs from autozone and guess what it started.. bosh plug arent always the best to use and yes they were both gapped right
