As a six speed owner, I think they jacked the gearing up. They should have kept the five speed ratios and added a sixth OD. The gears feel way too short, especially when you've got over 300HP... Other than that, the O2M has been a great tranny.

This has no bearing on VW trannys but, in the Subie world the STi's 6spd is the stoutest tranny in the company. So pretty much if you're looking for a high output Subie the 6MT is the way to go.

i dont have near 300hp, but the gears could be a little longer on the 6spd, but regardless i love having that 6th gear

Definatly wish I could say the same; I'm held by fifth gear many times on open road wishing for just 1 more gear =/.

In GTI's at least, the stock 6th gear in the 6speed is the same gear as the stock 5th gear in the 5 speed, so you wouldn't notice any difference.
Now, if they made a 6th gear OD like Dan said, then I'd love a 6speed. But as it is setup now, it's just marketing.

HPA Motorsports thought the same thing, thats why they have the rebuilt trannythat has the same geering as the 5sp and added a sixth that streches out to 200+ (you know for fuel econ:tup2:

Very nice, except for the price! $2K to change it, just for the parts, is pretty nuts.
