Nice Car. I love to see the older ones.
$1200 is not a bad price at all ( of course depending on condition). It won't take long and you will have to pay even more as they get rare.
I have some parts laying around if you need something.

No real idea on the mileage. The odometer on the parts car was broken at around 120k. We got the car to run and the tranny shifted fine until the motor died after a few miles of driving and then there was no longer any compression on cylinder 4. I was going to use the tranny in my rabbit with the swap, but I have another lined up that I just need more money to get. 4.25 w/a quaife.
Sounds like you got a good buy on the 16v. Can you post up some pics? and by the way.....

Break off the door handles? You must be talking about popping them off to break in. Get a Club or an alarm.
You can always get the Chinese door handles as replacements or just buy OE ones. Not like they're expensive.
Use your dough to make sure the engine is up to par...timing chain, updated temp sensors, etc. Or to replace that tranny if necessary. Then be prepared to hunt down an electrical gremlin or two.
Go buy a Bentley for your new gem now.

If you need new handles, they can be found here for cheap.

I would recommend replacing the timing belt asap as well if you have no proof that it was done recently. If it goes, your motor is done.
And yes, buy a Bentley.

Hey "16V-Fast "
lets go together if you like. Can't wait to get my MKII out on the road. Have been to GTG a long time ago so i really don't know anybody. It will take a little bit (2-3 weeks until i get the smog and some little stuff together).
But as soon as the car is street legal i want to go to a GTG and say thanks to some people who really helped me out with some questions.
