k, so once i leave for school my car might not get started for a few months. my uncle just told me that when he left his TT off for a few weeks it wouldn't start when he came back. he says there's some sort of trickling thing you can plug into the cig lighter to keep your battery from dying..... anyone know about this or have a link? thanks =)

Battery Disconnect from Parts4VWs.com (http://www.parts4vws.com/catalog/product_detail.asp?PartNumber=1010218)
If the car is going to be parked outside, there are quite a few people selling the OEM Solar panels that plug into your ciggarette lighter on VWVortex for around $25 shipped.

Another sellers FS thread - has 100 OEM ones, $12 + shipping (http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1487112)

The thing you speak of is a solar panel charger. You commonly see these things in dealer cars. I am guessing you can purchase it from the dealer at a premium. I did a search on JC WHITNEY and found this...

Here is the link to the page on the site... http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/ProductDisplay/s-10101/storeId-10101/p-5095/c-10101/catalogId-10101
It lists for 39.99, which isn't too bad. Also it looks like it connects to the battery directly and not thru a cigarette lighter plug, but you can buy a plug at radio shack and redo the wiring yourself. They also have more powerful units, but this should be sufficient. I'm thinking of getting one too, since my car isn't driven all that often right now.
Oh I found another one, this one has a ciggy plug!

It's only 29.99. Here's the link... http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/ProductDisplay/c-10101/s-10101/p-218359/mediaCode-ZX/appId-385939
This is what I used to use on my GTI since I didn't drive it all the time. I worked great and never once had a problem with the battery going dead on me.

why spend money on useless crap just un plug the battery and be done with it.
just have a friend or family member go start your car once a week and let it run untill its warmed up, if not, buy a trickle charger, porsche calls them "battery maintainers" and dealers sell them for $75, if you want one PM me I can get it cheaper than that
