Hello everyone, newbie here. I just recently picked up an A4 a few months ago and now my CEL came on

checked it with my OBD-II scanner and got this code.

17746 - Camshaft Position Sensor (G40) Open or Short to Plus
P1338 - 35-00

I'm not really that mechanically inclined (change oil and brakes that's about it).

Does anyone know a good mechanic in SD? I usually go to Lubo over at La jolla Autotech, but I figured I should probably ask you guys because you guys are definitely more experienced in local mechanics than I am. I've called German Works (found them on the links section) but the guy said he couldn't help me.

Any suggestions?

Surprising... Jesse's usually pretty versatile...

Thats actually a pretty easy one you can check yourself real fast to see if its just a loose connector.

On the front end of your engine near the fans on the top drivers side you should see a little round thing with a connector on it. Its aluminum with a black connector and its bolted to the engine with two bolts. See if the connector came off.

The connector is on the bottom of the sensor and has a little wire on it to push to unclip it.

Maybe someone can post a picture to show what I'm talking about

ya, I'm not sure if it was jesse or not on the phone, but the guy I talked to was cool about it. I told him my problem, and he said he wasn't sure if he could help me because they really don't do work on my type of vehicle.

Yeah, it sounds like an electrical problem with the sensor more than anything.

thanks guys for all the advice. I decided to order the part and swap it out myself. So far so good! Cleared the CEL, and hasn't been on since. awesome!!!

I have referred many people to Lubo and they have all been happy. He is a straight up guy and takes good care of his customers.
