Alright so I have a MK4 Jetta 2.0 with ECS intake, TT catback exhaust, only Tein springs w/ stock shocks , stock brakes, 18" 7.5 width wheels. My question is, would it be dumb to auto-x it?
If you could also tell me about your past auto-xing experiences, any problems, was it worth it?

Thanks for the advise!

why would it be dumb?? it doesn't matter how fast your car is or how many mods you have. It's just a way to challenge yourself and imporve your driving skills.

Your gonna pay $35 in advance or $40 at the door just to get into Dubwars for the weekend, but you can sign up for autoX in advance for $50 which includes the weekend admission. For an extra 10 bucks sign up for autoX. Who cares if your car is not super fast. I am doing the autoX and the road race. both are fun as hell. Let's you use your car in conjuction with your modifications. something you cant really do in everyday driving (legally anyways).

Autocross is designed so that it's perfectly safe with a car right off the factory floor. You don't need performance modifications. On the track, that's another matter.

I think first gear is only meant to be used from a complete stop?

if you come off of a 90 degree turn in auto-x, which almost always makes you drop to 2 mph, then yes drop it back into first gear and move on. 1st and 2nd gears are what you 9 outta 10 times gonna be using anyways 3rd, if you're lucky.

it will be some extra wear and tear on your shocks, but a few auto X runs won't blow them.

Bring some extra brake fluid, and check your pads to make sure you have plenty to spare. Other than that, you'll be fine.

Come and have fun :smokem:

The difference as I understand it is that SA rated helmets are designed for more than one impact.

Assuming they check helmets during tech like they're supposed to, that would be a no. Probably need an SA2000 minimum.

First of all, never use first gear except when leaving the start. Its hard on the tranny and a complete waste of time on the track.
Then, the CAI alone puts you in Street Prepared. Actually, all your mods sans the exhaust puts you in SP. So for you, Street.
You will need a helmet to run the autox. If this were an SCCA event, it would have to be rated but its not. Its a hack event so anything that looks like a helmet will work fine.

EDIT FOR PAUL:
Its a hack event, meaning, not a sanctioned body. Its just for fun, no real competition.

Ha, I edited it to splain my comment clearly. ;)

I was amusing myself with how few enterants there were on the DW site for the AX and RR when I noticed that there has been a significant change. Looks like there will be no AX. Bah, Look at it this way, money saved.

I stand corrected. :D So is it safe to assume that the FAQ for tech inspection on the dubwars site mainly applies to the 'road race' event? Or is that FAQ just what they would do in a perfect world?

In the past the tech inspection for the AX was very relaxed. Really basic safety, seatbelts, brakes, check for fluids, tell the whole world to clean out the car and have a helmet. Even for the RR event, its relaxed. The tracks dont have a say in the cars unless they are leaking fluid of some sort.

FYI, Dubwars did not write the FAQ, they borrowed the majority of it from other sites.

Just so those of you that are Auto-Xing at Dubwars, they changed it to 15 minutes of track time.

Yeah, its not an autox anymore. Instead you get a whopping 15 minutes on the track which is about 4 laps.
