Interesting how this turns out... :D

In a statement, CBS said former Texas Guard official Bill Burkett "has acknowledged that he provided the now-disputed documents" and "admits that he deliberately misled the CBS News producer working on the report, giving her a false account of the documents' origins to protect a promise of confidentiality to the actual source."

I think somebody is going to get spank.

Where's the interest in finding out who screwed them? Where is the interest in finding out who deceived them? There's no anger. All there is, is a bunch of remorse and pleas. "Hey, you know, this is a one-time mistake. We still care about integrity and truthfulness and fairness here at CBS. If I'd have known what I know now I wouldn't have used them." That's not the story. That's old news. Everybody knows you shouldn't have used these documents. Everybody knows you shouldn't have gone to press or gone to air with a story this flimsy. The question is: Who? And the fact that there's no anger, the fact that there is no apparent upset here, the fact that there is no stated intention to go find out who screwed with CBS and Dan Rather, tells me they know who it is. So they were not deceived. They were not fooled. Well, no, they were not deceived. They were not fooled. They're not victims here. They're going to try to portray themselves as victims, but they're not, because they did not do their due diligence.

So is it libel or slander, I can never remember which one is written and which one is spoken.

Oh the irony.

Since when is "flawed data" something to get outraged about?
I thought is was just business as usual.

Btw I was very suspect of the docs and the timing.

Neither, because proving actual malice would be extremely difficult. Doubly so in an election year.

I think you could possibly prove malice. I forgot her name (the female producer in charge of this story). Recently her father has spoken out about stating that he's ashamed of what she's become, a raging liberal. But then again this isn't the first time CBS has been accused of "Bias" Anyone read the book by Bernie Goldberg?

Possible, sure, but highly unlikely.
I'm not sure a prosecutor would want to touch this case with a 39 1/2 foot pole anyway.
heh.
