my 01 1.8t rebuild cost me $1200 at a shop here in san diego. i would think your engine would cost less. but thats just me. hit me up if you wanna know what shop it was if not than good luck.

it really depends on how much needs to be done + how much you want done (preventative maintenance) and how much of the work is being done by a private party, or shop.

if I was to do your engine, it would be right around $1000 FYI. Figure for a shop to be more.

Hey,,thanks for the info....I don't have the car (I'm looking for a 89-92 GTI...)
I saw this '92 GTI in Craiglist (the engine needs rebuilding..). I just wanted to know how much this kind of work would cost,,thanks......:D
