Hey Everyone! It has been a while since I have posted. I just wanted to share some pics of my newly acquired 1974 Type 147 fridolin. Besides all the Splitty’s I have owned this has been a long awaited find. I purchased this from a friend in Belgium which acquired it directly from the Swiss postal service for me. It is all original and fully functional with 39,000 original miles on the original engine which is still running. It is currently somewhere on the ocean on its way to me. This has to be one of the most rare VW’s to find. There are very few in the US. Most of them are in Florida and I believe I will be the fourth person to have one in California. But I think I can say that out of all of these I will probably have one of maybe a hand full that has one in 100% complete condition with no missing parts even the rack was a special order from the postal service. We believe the blue paint on the body was added by the postal service for which reasons we don’t know. It is the original paint & Scheme minus the blue. I was hoping they didn’t have to take off postal logos but they did. From what I understand this is # 1201 the last to arrive in Switzerland.
Here is a link to the pics. I am still unable to upload for some reason so i just dumped them on an FTP

A tidbit of history:
6139 cars were built until 1972 for the german car market; 85% of them for use in the Bundespost. The rest was delivered to german companies and local authorities, even the norwegian general importer brought one Fridolin to Oslo. Also the Schweizer Bundepost PTT (Swiss Postal Service) ordered 1201 cars, although in a modified version due to changed requirements: They had a 1,3 litre 44 PS engine, front disk brakes, auxiliary heater, ventilation hatch in the roof, outside mirrors not attached to the doors but to the front fenders, a custom made interior paneling, a larger scale window in the tailgate and during the last years of manufacture windows in the rear corners, to improve the view from within the car. In 1974 the production of the Fridolin ended, but a small reserve stock of new cars was put into commission by the PTT until 1977.
Have a great weekend!
