They're just jealous because they have to admit, most VW enthusiasts do have taste and style ... something I can only say for about 2% of modded Honda/Acuras I see on the road.
VW owners do tend to be assholes though. But the mk4/5 drivers are a different breed; anyone with tons of $ is going to be percieved as a prick by the gutter-dwelling ghetto drivers such as myself.
Still cracks me up every time I hear a joke about VW reliability. I've still only had one thing break in my motor [plastic coolant flange] in the 3+ years I've owned/beat on it.

As someone who drove civics/integras before I'd ever sat in a VW ... I can attest that VWs also have far superior build / ride feel.

Eh, whatever. To each their own. It's not that I laugh at Hondas per se, but rather ricers in general. Their bad taste doesn't have make/model boundaries, though they tend to flock to some more than others. There's plenty of Hondas that I've seen that are done tastefully that I have respect for.
And I've owned enough VWs that I won't even begin to defend their reliability. I put up with them because reliability isn't of major importance to me. ;)

Yeah, poo on Euros.... I akid... I akid...
Whatever helps a ricer sleep at night I guess... Once a Honda Ricer, always a Honda Ricer. Theres a kid (Honda Ricer turned Subie :( ) at my squadron that talks shit on my SVX because its an NA engine (Not even knowing a thing about my 3.3 boxer 6). When the little punk went out an bought a modded WRX and thinks he's OG Subie.

As a Honda tech... I can say that Hondas too have their fair share of problems/issues. For instance...
2nd gen Odysseys.... Honda had to extend their warranty on auto transmissions to 100k miles because of the constant failures. We do several of these weekly. Same goes for Accords around the same years. Obviously a problem there.
Build quality/materials..... daily we get atleast 4-5 or more vehicles with complaints of rattles, noises, grinding, etc...
And there are many more. Not saying that VW's dont have problems, but that other manufacturers have problems as well.
Been lucky with my GTI. Only issue I had was something I did myselF... so you cant blame VW for that one! :ha:

I don't view the VW demographic as one with "tons of $".

sadly, even in the japanese scene, theres too much hating going on there
not to say, there's not its own share in the euro community
we do our best not to let them come about around here ;)

That is just stupid... I went from a honda to a golf... I never hated on "pricks" I never talked shit about anyone... Sone people jsut need an ego boost. Driving a piece of shit arond, someone rolls by in a vw, and they throw a fit. Why? I dunno. Jealousy maby? I dont think highly about my self now that i drive a vw. My civic compared to my golf? No comparison. VW takes the win. You dont get harassed by the cops as much, you dont get looked upon as a "ricer",nicer interior, better styling... etc. Just seen as a person driving a nice car.

you're loyal to what you drive. I drove hondas before my audi. I dont think i could ever go back...unless it was the new TL. Yeah thats hot....
..if i wanted better gas milage I would go back to the factory chip. As far as problems, every car has its share. It has how many moving parts!?!? something has to go wrong and once you learn what it can be you pay extra attention to that area.
