I hear ya on that one. I was the high bidder on a set of OEM STi BBS rims then go out bid with 30 sec left and got outbid by $10 on a set of axels for the SVX in the last 10 sec. Thats the shitty thing about Ebay sometimes.

Sniping software is the way to go. You just input the absolute max you are willing to spend, and walk away.
im just a casual bidder......i didnt need them however, it would have been nice to win

Ok, so need isn't the right word, but they are a damn sexy want. :D

Sniping is perfectly legal according to eBay rules.
The thing is, there's still no guarantee you'll win. I've still lost many, many auctions because someone else had a higher max bid than me, whether they were using sniping software or not. The main reason I like it is that I never end up spending more than I planned to. It makes it impossible to get caught up in competition of the auction. It's amazing the insane prices some people will pay because they had to win.
I pay for AuctionTamer, which is mainly seller software that has the sniping portion built in as well.

lol, i was thinking the same thing when i put my final bid, then was out bidded, they could have got them hella cheap if i hadnt raised the stakes

hehe - yeah, pretty funny looking at the bid history sometimes. I've seen a laptop auction go for over $100 more than another auction that ended five minutes later. And they had almost identical specs. Crazy.

heh, i win 9 outta 10 times when i really want something on ebay. the key is NOT to bid on the item. until the last few minutes to keep the price as low as possible. then one final bid within the final 3 seconds to seal the deal.
everytime i've won the bid within the final 3 seconds, i've always wanted to see the other bidders faces when they seen that they lost that bid so quickly.. :D

thats probably the strategy the majority of people use

As GTi_01 said, never bid on something you want until the absolute last moment you are present.
If this is not during the last minute of the auction, chances are you will not win.
I stick to Buy It Nows as I don't really find auctions exciting in a good way (I'm also not much of a gambler). On actual auctions, I follow the above policy, and I don't get my hopes up.
