Mine isn't an addiction... its just a fun toy I pull out every now and then at the GTGs

I have a Losi XXXNT... nothing special and I, poser that I am, bought the RTR version.

Actually I want to get a new one to build as this in my first nitro powered RC and I was just looking for something to learn the ins and outs of them.

Paul use to have an addiction. He use to work at his full time professional job, and then go to work for couple hours after his normal work at a hobby store just to pay for his RC vehicle addiction.

The MAX truck he had with a 2.5hp motor was narly. Thing was faster than most of the HPA racing cars.

Not sure if he's into RC's anymore, but he definitely knows his RC's

Good to see there are some fellow R/C enthusiasts here. I have been into R/C for about 4 years now. I currently own the following:

Associated NTC3 w/ Lots of Hardcore Mods and O.S. TR 12
Associated TC3 w/ Epic Outlaw stock motor
Serpent Impulse Pro w/ RB X12
HPI Nitro RS4. Shes kinda old but still good to loan out.

Just sold fully modded T-Maxx 2.5 in order to get the new T-Maxx REVO. Just wish the stores could keep the thing in stock.

hmm some of the things i've owned

All gear was on ko propo MARS EX-1 transmitter, 75mhz FM

.21 hardcore conversion T-maxx with progressive suspension resevoir shocks.. :D <--- fun bash toy

Academy STR-4 (full carbon, not the cheap plastic rtr, hard to get parts for). KO propo VFS-2000 w/programmer. KO propo digital high speed/tq servos <--- best frigging race chassis I've ever had.

RC10T3 GM VM12 ESC, KO digital servo got bored with rwd trucks, bleh.

Yokomo MR4TC Special raced this while i was waiting for a new chassis on the STR-4

RC12L3 fun ass pan car, too bad no where to drive the here in SD

HPI RS4 Micro

Kyosho Mini Z (CLK GTR, still have this)

first car HPI RS4 RTR built to the hill

Serpent Impulse

Yep, fun but expensive. Gave it up when i started dumping my cash in the Audi ;)

Depends on the quality of car you a looking for, and if you want Nitro or Electric. My personal taste is for Nitro cars. Sure they are harder to tune and much much messier, but they are alot more fun. That's just my opinion though. The obvious places to buy from are the local hobby stores. San Diego has hobby people and hobby central out in Poway, and North County has Hobby Town. Ready to Run cars are usually best for beginners, but trust when I say you will spend alot more money on upgrades once you get into the hobby. Most of the RTR's come with 2 speeds now so it's really up to brand preference. I have owned Yokomo's, Serpents, HPI's, Tamiya, and Associated. By far my favorite is the Associated. The parts are everywhere and the cars are very well balanced and easy to drive. They're a bit heavy for the track and don't carry the same speed as the Serpents, or Mugen's but for a learning car they are tanks and take a serious beating. The stock engine is garbage, but other then that you will probably just need to change the steering servo and maybe the radio. Other than that is should last quite a while. But that is again, just my opinion.

i agree there pertano, associated is probably the best rtr sedan out there right now. parts are everywhere. you may also wanna check out www.hobbypeople.net . there you can cruise through all the cars and see the prices on them. bare in mind that the bodies can be changed to just about anything you want. the only prob is finding an audi. hpi used to make a wagon that was sick, but they discontinued it. protoform has a jetta sedan that is nice.

lets see i started out with an associated 12lw back in 94 ran 1/12th scale pan car 6 cell that was so dam fast with just a stock motor i dont know how i ever controlled it in so cal...... moved into offroad with a Losi Jr-T that i converted into a cross-bread Losi Pro Se and was actually pretty dam sucessful with. Then I got a Tamiya TAO2 FWD car that i had a blast with durning the hole parking lot craze then i got one of the MRP Tunnel Hull Off Shore race boats which i still have that ill eventually put a cobalt of some sorts from one of my RC planes into it and really haul ass and chase ducks at the local lake hahah
Lets see Then i stumbled across a Traxxas 4 tec which i just soild on ebay that was heavily modded carbon and leight weight aluminum everything even had the coil over shocks from an associated TC3 worked really well too alot of fun....now all i have left is my HPI micro 4wd and about 6 sail planes and 4-5 electric planes all sitting in storage got tired of trying to find places to race in so cal and driving to LA just to run a lil r/c car for years i worked for hobby shack which is now hobby people up till about feburary of this year....i decided i wanted to go drag racing full time and hit all the west coast events so i got rid of alot of my stuff ill probably end up getting rid of my planes when i move to vegas here next year :smokem:

Belt drive 'eh? Is that better than non-belt drive R/C cars? Just curious.

Paul

off road = no belt drive...

on road = belt or shaft drive. Belts are more efficient at higher speeds, whereas shaft drive being more efficient at lower speeds. Shaft is a nice to have for bashing, no chance of picking up little pebbles from the street, belts will. Belts need replacement regularly, even with a tensioner.
