View Full Version : Measure AB2683 signed by Arnie
Ok so our govenator who was thought to be a car entusiast, signed the passing of measure AB2683, which in a nut shell closes the loop hole for rolling 30 year exemptions for vehicles. which in turn means alot of people with mid 70's up collector cars like a Ferrari 308 with webers are screwed and will have to be smogged permanently! So alot of us have newer cars but we all need to help each other out and take your time as I have and click on the links below and send the sponsor of this bill Sally Lieber (http://democrats.assembly.ca.gov/members/a22/) an email, or if your really bored a phone call or letter. And while your at it here is a link to the Governators home Page (http://www.governor.ca.gov/state/govsite/gov_contacts.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@0119371991.10961 59510@@@@&BV_EngineID=cccdadcmikdidjgcfngcfkmdffidfof.0) if you could send him the courtesy too he would appreciate it.
AND LINK THIS TO OTHER SITES!

Arnie has what, a gazillion Hummers?? I guess you could call him a "Enthusiast" :D I understand that the older cars put out a lot more crap into the air, but at the same time the older cars couldn't be more the 5% of whats on the road right now. Kinda sucks but I'm really not that concerned right now as my oldest car is an 84 and I already knew I'd have to smog then put on the turbo for the 2 years and redo it all over again  I'd be damned pissed off if I did have a 75 Rabbit though
Will sending mail to these goons change anything as arnie already signed??
I sent one to the sponsor and arnie, If you could send one it would help as you know the old moniker, squeaky wheel gets the grease, if enough of us stand up and bitch they will notice and hopefully repeal it, but it only works if people send in email so DO IT! get others to do it and think about it, 2014 and the rabbit wont need to be smogged!

Well... we have the the worst air quality in the nation so stuff like these should be a surprise to anyone. I just wish we have more effective mass transit system.

I see nothing wrong with that.
You want to drive a vintage car, smack a cat onto the damned thing.
Pay to play.

Perhaps, but this is really just political gamesmanship.
Rather than focus on cars that are rarely driven, why not focus on industrial machines, diesel rigs, and farm machinery?

I want to see some real numbers exactly how many old junkers on the road.

I'm moving to Texas but since I'm still registered here I'll send an email.
I'm still waiting for lawnmowers, barbecues, and remote control cars to be banned unless they pass SMOG. They have already started looking at them. Its only a matter of time.
It would actually be kinda cool if you could just pay extra in lieu of being smogged. Like an extra percentage on your registration. Then we could actually pay to play instead of not play at all.

It should be based on a factor of miles driven + mpg attained.
Then we could penalize all those soccer moms driving their demon hordes the 1 mile to school every damn day.

I just want a blanket law with an emissions limit, regardless of fuel type.

I just want a blanket law with an emissions limit, regardless of fuel type.
So then an electric or natural gas vehicle could run dirtier than it normally would and still pass while a gasoline vehicle would have to be in top emissions controlling shape to pass. Hardly seems fair.
Would emissions include fuel production. A coal burning plant to produce electricity doesn't really make an electric vehicle a clean alternative. Oil refineries keep getting cleaner and cleaner though in an effort not only to clean up their act but also to up their efficiency and output.
And then there are older vehicles that were made before emissions were even a concern... should we penalize their owners with an emissions standard their car could never meet. The only people this will affect are those that can't afford a new car. They are just going to be screwed.
Alternative fuel vehicles are still a slippery slope as their technology has not been advanced because there is too much money in petroleum based living. They are coming around but I think legislatures would be more prudent to wait until they mature to avoid forcing people to become early adopters.
I went kinda off topic.... sorry.
We already have a gas guzzler surcharge... why not just have a pollution surcharge.
