Been awhile since we had a good presence out there. Let's show up and have some fun together! It's a week away so we have time to get the word out.

Friday, August 18th at Qualcomm Stadium. 1/8 mile drags. $30 to race (at the door price, less if you pre-register at racelegal.com) and $8- to spectate (but what's the fun in just that?)

Check racelegal.com for FAQs on what you need, but basically it's an up to date helmet, long pants, and you're good to go.

Tech inspection begins at 5:30pm, and racing usually begins at 6pm. I tend to show up early, start racing right from the start, and I get it 20-25 runs before 9pm.

Every previous time, I've run in full trim, including the baby seat. This time I'm going to see what she'll do with some simple weight reduction, so will be losing the 60lb back seat, spare tire gear, all that jazz. Gonna see if I can get lower than 8.89 (my current best time), and of course put the smack down on all the little SRT4s, S2k's, and many Evo's (amazingly enough, most are just not that fast at Qualcomm). Last race out I embarassed a 2005 GTO as well. So... let's bring out the European cars in force and wreak some havoc!

I'm in.

Yeah, it is sort of weird. I ran like 12 times last time out and only lost twice to two different trucks—once to Tony's VW truck that ran an 8.1 and once to one of those SRT-10 Viper trucks that ran an 8.4 (although I actually won by beating him on the tree...). I'm hoping to get in the low 8's next time out.

sweet! :) Was that on race or pump?

I was out there last night to check it out. I think I might bring the SVX out and see what it can do with the new 6spd.

Ran an 8.6 with a 2.0 60ft on pump last time I was at Qualcomm and I ran a 8.5 with a 2.16 60ft on race when I was at Fontana, so I'm thinking I should be able to get an 8.3 at least. I dunno...should be fun!

hmmmm... wonder what I would run... I suppose I'll go.

The all knowing Internet says you'll run (assuming you're stock) the 1/4 in 13.2@107, so I'll go ahead and say that you should do an 8.8. Whether or not it happens is up to you... :)

dam you were hitting 2.1's in fontana i was running 2.2's and 2.3's last week on my radials, i still think you need a bit bigger slick to hold the power off the line ...ill probably be way slower at no traction Qualcomm

ill be there getting seat time this friday......

I'm in, this will be my first time drag racing but thought it'd be fun to see what the SVX can do. I'm also going to give Autocross a shot in Sept.

I get consistant 2.0's at Qualcomm...not sure what was wrong at Fontana. Oh, maybe it's that I only got two runs on record! :)

The small slicks save my stock clutch. Once I get my other tranny in there, I'll step up to some adequate ones. I've been curious to ask Dave (the blue GLI) to use his slicks, but I'm afraid I'll kill something.

daygoVR6
08-15-2006, 09:11 AM
i think hes got a pretty heavy duty clutch in there ....im not sure what all he has done with the trans though hell i think he still runs an open diff...i could be wrong though

I might go. I get bored there pretty quick so I'm not to sure.

Dave has an 02M tranny, which is what all the high-power, five-speed 02J guys (what I'm running) have been switching to. A lot more bullet-proof. I have a spare tranny with axles, clutch kit, and lsd sitting in my garage. Just need to buy a timing belt kit and find some time to swap everything in.

You talk to Soch or Jesse? Those guys coming down...are you coming down? Is blue brown and black red? Can I get a large fry?

daygoVR6
08-16-2006, 10:01 AM
havent been able to get a hold of soch or jessie - ill check my post on vortex....tony blew his trans last weekend ou there...Soch i thought was thinking of doing the 1.9L diesel swap and turboing the hell out of that to try something new....could be intresting to see the kind of torque he produces

im trying to get there .....i dont know about blue.....but pink is the new black...i got some onion rings...no i dont share

does any of you know anyone with an A3 at qualcomm that's raced there already? i just wanna get an idea what my chipped A3 2.0T can do

I might be there with the stang

g60racer
08-17-2006, 09:33 PM
A3 2.oT quattro, or FWD?

FWD probably will turn a 10.0 @ 74mph, Quattro will probably do a 9.0 @ 77mph

Just my guesses.

sandiegobmx
08-17-2006, 10:01 PM
Why would quattro trap higher? Assuming he's not spinning the entire track on fwd, I'd think it'd be the opposite trap wise...

daygoVR6
08-18-2006, 08:55 AM
you can launch an awd better (more traction) so basicaly it equates to a quicker 60ft time which gives you a better E.T. over all ....trap speed might be close to eachother though come 330 ft out youve got a bit more weight to get down the track ....good driver in an FWD A3 would be right there for at least 100 ft to 120 feet out ...i cant see a stock quattro going 9.0 though but i could be wrong

Paul
08-18-2006, 09:25 AM
stock quattro a3 won't hit 9.0 although the DSG does help a lot in killing shift times.

Paul
08-18-2006, 09:27 AM
The 2.0T A3 doesn't come in quattro, only the 3.2 DSG.

Quattro does help a lot on 1/8, on a 1/4 mile it's not as much of an adv if the FWD car or rwd car has more power. Like Brad said the quattro is heavier, a lot more drivetrain loss and equates to slow trap speeds. Short of people like Mike Hood and 400+ whp.

My A4 @ 170whp quattro was turning 90-92 mph trap speeds in the 1/4 IIRC. It's SLOW.

AWD lose a lot of HP since they're usin all their wheels to pull. I've seen losses of 25 hp on a stock WRX. With the flash though, it all comes back. 9.0 is a bit drastic for an A3, even a 2.0T. I'm thinkin more around 9.3. With the flash then yes a 9.0 and below. I'm thinkin about a 9.5 would be about right.

Paul
08-18-2006, 09:37 AM
prior to my current program, fastest run down the 1/8 at qualcomm was 9.59, 1.9X 60', car was likely close to 165whp...

daygoVR6
08-18-2006, 10:58 AM
thats pretty nice to run a 9.5 in a quattro set up gives you around a 14.70 maybe a lil slower depending on conditions

ill be lucky if i even get close to that tonight ....ill have to play with tire set up a bit

anyone going to enter in the bracket race? i think its an extra 5 bux

i would think a stock 2.0T in a heavy A3 be like a 9.8 with most of the drivers out there ...9.5 is feasible though with the right set up in ideal conditions

daygoVR6

hey Paul i wonder what the FJ will run in the 1/8th ......:D :smokem:

Paul

haha it's been mentioned before already... not gonna drag my FJ damn it.

daygoVR6
08-18-2006, 02:54 PM
i could even find you slicks for it ........

Paul
08-18-2006, 02:56 PM
4300lbs suv, full time 4x4, lock center torsen, transfercase to low, lock rear diff. I think I can tow a mack truck down the 1/8th :D

daygoVR6
08-18-2006, 03:02 PM
stick it in 4whl high and side step the clutch at 5500 rpm ...hahahahah

Just got back home.

Ran a slop 8.6, a bunch of 8.3s, an 8.2, an 8.1, and ended the night on an 8.0. Pretty happy overall...now if I could just run a high 11 on a quarter mile track, I could stop spending money on my car. ;)

Thanks for letting me mooch your shit, Brad.

hey i saw you jumpin on that wrx all night! that was awesome man

because the quattro gets accelerating faster, not losing as much time spinning. More time to accelerate means higher trap speed.

Hey did anyone happen to pick up my small grey thermal lunchbag? I left it at the canopy when I was racing, it has "James" written on it... it's my son's lunchbox thing. When I went back there, everyone had packed up and it was gone.

Yeah, that was my buddy's car. I ran a new Viper first run of the night...he beat me by .2! Haha...he actually looked back right before the line surprised I was still with him. Especially since before we went, he asked, "Are your tires supposed to be that low?"

I second you Brad. Great idea to BBQ. I had fun learning how to drag race. Maybe next time I'll do a bit better and won't miss as many gears.
