So the annual Fleet Week is coming up. Most San Diegians know about the Coronado Speed Festival. This is to see who'd be interested in showing up for the Show and Shine. I'm going to call the guy in charge and find out what we have to do. On Paul's recomendation, I'm putting up this post first to get an idea of how many people want to come. So lets bring out the SCE crew and let SD see out stuff!
Update: I forgot to add the dates, they are OCT. 7th and 8th. Figured a good chunk of us could meet up at Fusion's both days to Caravan down. I'd say around 715-730ish to get there at 8.

Lived there for 13 years and never went. Maybe I just got enough of the military off base that it turned me off of going on the base.
Still sounds like fun.

I'm one of the Car Corral (car exhibition) organizers for the Speed Festival, and I've been bringing in the Corrado Club for the past 13 years, as well as random other stray watercooled VAG groups such as SoCal R32 and a few from SoCalEuro in the last few years.
Would *love* to see some good representation from SoCalEuro. Last year we had 15 Corrados, 15 R32s, and a handful of GTi's and Jettas. I bet we could easily double that number of total cars just from SCE showing up.
This year there is an actual judged car show to complement the Car Corral exhibition, so each car will not only be judged by the people for best in show, but they will be reviewed by judges for points, with some really nice prizes for the winners.

Forgot to mention... to show your car, you must buy an admission ticket to the Speed Festival, and post here that you are going to show it. I will issue you a pass for your car to get it into the show, day of the show when we meet to caravan down there. The bulk of the group must arrive together in order to secure our parking area, because the organizers can never predict until day-of whether all 150+ Mini Coopers and Miatas will show up, or what.
You can get your tickets at ticketmaster, or pacificlifeholidaybowl.com
Your vehicle passes (from me) are good both days, Saturday and Sunday, to get into the VIP parking and/or the Car Corral.

Better count me in on the list as well, for an accurate count. I will probably show both the Corrado and the R32... I'm sure I won't have a problem getting my brother to drive one of them into the show. ;)

Also, could you post up the price for the tickets for everyone G60?

08-21-2006, 06:20 PM
Another update for everyone... I found out the ticket prices, $25 for one day $35 for both. But, the MWR price is $12.50 for one day and $15.00 for both. I'm pretty sure I can get those of you that want to show tickets for $15 for the whole weekend. PM me if you want tickets.

Just a bump update... I'd like to see more car on this list. Like I said I can get you guys the tickets almost half off for both days, $15 instead of $35. I think we'll be able to tailgate/BBQ so there's some more incentive to come. Besides the obvious vintage historic racing.

Here's a preview. I spent about 2 hours on the interior and about 45 minutes on each rim. They are going to need more work but at least I got the dull out of them. I will have it properly prepped before the show so everything will look much better.

Chrysler Classic Speed Festival
Presented by North Island Credit Union
A Pacific Life Holiday Bowl Production
October 7+8
NAS North Island, Naval Base Coronado
Staged on the runways and taxiways of Naval Base Coronado with Navy aircraft and ships in the background, the Speed Festival will feature over 200 of the world's top racing machines from years gone by competing on a spectator-friendly 1.6 mile course. These vintage racecars are chosen to compete on the basis of their historical significance and certified authenticity.
In addition to the racing action, tour Vendor Village, the Car Club Corral and the Classic Car Collection.
Here's the deal: It's THE vintage/classic speed festival, where all the Ferrari 250GTO's, 250 Testarossas, 275 LM's, Porsche 356's, Jag E-types, Cobra 427's, etc etc are brought out and driven like they were meant to. You'll never see such a great collection of race cars actually being raced! The US Navy shuts down a large portion of the airfield at NAS North Island in Coronado and turns it into a 1.8 mile track for the vintage racers. It happens once a year, and it's coming up again this October.
How does this involve us? Well, certain car clubs like the Ferrari Club , Vette Club and the Porsche Club are invited to show their cars as an organized group in a special presentation area. Traditionally, the Corrado Club of America has been invited for the past five years to be part of the special exhibition, but this year I have been given the discretion to open up the invitation to a wider range of Euro enthusiasts this year!
So I can have 100 VW’s and Audi’s come and enjoy a weekend of racing and show off their cars!!! (BMW’s and other marques, there are already your specific owner clubs coming – hook up with them to get a slot)
Event will be happening October 7th and 8th. We're welcome to show off as a group both days, but I'd like the big turnout to be on Saturday the 7th. Those who can be there both days, great! I'll be there too and we'll have a great time!
Anyone interested in participating, post your email address here and I will email out the specific info. If you don't contact me, you won't get a pass (which you'll need to get into the VIP areas and the parking corral). You do get in+out privileges with the special parking area, so you can leave anytime and come back. Passes are FREE for the special parking area. You will *still* need to buy tickets for admission to the race event to be admitted, tix run $25 for the weekend or $15 for one day and you can get them at http://www.pacificlifeholidaybowl.com or at http://www.ticketmaster.com
We will be meeting at the old caravan meeting spot, (the parking lot of 1st Assembly of God church on Phyllis Place) on the morning of the event at 8am, rolling out at 8:30am
For the caravan, FRS radios are encouraged of course. We'll be on channel 3sub2. Take my cell phone # with you in case you're delayed, it's 619-417-3872.
I will pass out the special exhibition parking passes that morning, which allow you in+out access to the show. (Yes, you can bail for food and we save your parking spot for you!) If you can't come til later, just hit me on my cell phone and I *may* be able to meet you at the entrance to the exhibition area. Then again, I'll be wandering the pits amongst the Ferrari V12's, so I might not be able to hear it ring. Best idea is to be on time!
I will be bringing a nice shady pavilion tent, bring your own folding chairs and lots of sunscreen for wandering the grandstands and pits!! Oh and a towel to sop up all your drool when you see what kind of cars are parked all around us.
Email your RSVP’s to g60racer@aol.com, and post here in the SOCal forum thread.
There is also a car show this year with prizes
It costs $30 to be in the car show. Cars in the show will park separately from the rest of us who are just exhibiting our cars, and there will be a VW specific class.

UPDATE:
We will be meeting to cruise down to the event on Saturday at 8am, in the parking lot of San Diego 1st Assembly of God church at 8404 Phyllis Place. From 805, take the Murray Ridge Rd/Phyllis Place exit and head west. The church is on the right side, first thing you come to. It's immediately off the freeway.
We will leave promptly at 8:30am to head to Coronado.
YOU NEED TO HAVE YOUR TICKETS to the event, or they won't let you in the exhibition area. Meaning: you must have the free exhibition passes I will give out at the meet (at the church), AND you must have the paid tickets to the event which you can get at any ticketmaster outlet or military ticket outlet.
If you would like to show your car on Sunday as well, your exhibition pass is good for both days. I cannot be there Sunday to organize, but SoCalEuro will have a dedicated parking section which you can take advantage of.

Okay, what frakking happened this morning???? 17 confirmed and 5 showed up!?!?!?!
Greaaaaaaaaat waste of tickets and our club's reputation. We were outnumbered by the Opel GT Club.
Should SCE deserve a rep of being flakes who don't follow through on simple commitments?
I am giving the rest of the tickets to the SoCal Corrado Group and SoCal R32. They do happen to be meeting tomorrow morning to cruise down to the event, but at this point it's first come first served for the remaining tickets, and I know the SCCG has 20 cars coming and SoCal R32 has at least 7, so... get yer butts there at 8am sharp if you want to be part of this and redeem yourselves.

Back from the dead and probably will be locked pretty quickly, but I found that the only negative rep points I got stemmed from this thread. Apparently, whoever posted the neg rep thinks that I "confirmed" for thi event and thus wasted a ticket for me. I took the liberty to quote all my posts in this thread in chronological order:
I might be able to make it to this. I should make clear that I can only be there on SaturdayI'm out... sorry, work owns me
I would have loved to be there, but work takes priority since I get paid pretty good money and I'm expected to be available at a moments notice, so... I'm sorry once again.
