Color me absolutely insane ... but there's a beautiful 1986 Coupe GT [possibly the commemorative edition?] for sale in my locale, and I'm seriously considering trying to trade my Golf for it.
The stealer is asking $5000 for it ... that's two grand over bluebook. My Golf should be worth about $4500, plus it has upgraded wheels, GTI exhaust, new/modded suspension [though the dealer might frown on that].
I know there's at least one Audi Coupe owner on here, I'm thinking two ... any/all input + knowledge would be greatly appreciated!
Any chance of finding parts? Think a mechanic at one of the two local German shops could handle it? Any chance of it being mechanically sound and relatively trouble-free?
I know these things are quite rare, likely very unreliable ... thankfully I don't need a running car
All I know at this point is that its a 2.2L, 110hp/122 lb-ft FWD coupe ... less powerful and efficient than my own Golf ... but god, it looks so [b]GOOD!!!
The Coupe GT (http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_id=199797099&dealer_id=84403&car_year=1986&mod_bookmark_id=null&search_type=both&num_records=25&make=AUDI&distance=50&model=&address=97304&certified=&advanced=&max_price=5000&bkms=1156297572338&min_price=1&end_year=2007&start_year=1981&lang=en&cardist=38) I'm looking at.

As long as the exhaust doesn't look like the one in the 2nd picture, DO IT!
That's COOL!
Sounds like a lot of money for that car!
I paid about half that price for my URQ?

Hah ... if it does, that'll be the first thing to go!

Yeah, it is way overpriced, even for being rare.
I'd try to talk the dealer into a trade plus some $$ back, otherwise, no way.
But the dealer hasn't contacted me back anyway ... hopefully they will, its way outta town [up by Portland]; hopefully I can check it out Saturday.
I'm doing this completely on a random urge/whim, but I think it'd be cool as hell.
It'll take a lot more $ for my Golf to be anything unique. Its fun, but hey, I could use some style instead.
look around for a 4000q if you like the 4 door I had a nice black 4000q and I miss that car alot!

I kinda dig those, but I don't plan on getting another 4-door again, no need for it ... plus, the coupe is just so hot!
Still no word from the dealer, and I doubt they'd be willing to knock it down to a reasonable-enough price for me to make a trade ... too bad ... guess I'll have to throw some more $$ at my mk3 and hope I love it again.

Never did hear back about the Coupe GT ... figured the asking price was far too high to justify bargaining anyway.
But now ... still been feeling really down on / bored with my car lately. So in a bad mood, I'm browsing the local autotrader, and find this:

Impound car ... clearly has some rear bumper issues [no worse than my golf tho], needs at least one speaker ... no milage listed, asking only $630, so either this thing is beat or it's the steal of the century.
Oh but it has Quattro!
I figure I have to check it out ... if it runs it's gotta be worth more than the asking price. For that price I could justify picking it up and selling my Golf later! If its not gone already ...

This impound place seems a bit sketchy on the phone ... but I'm gonna drive up North and check this car out somehow on Saturday!
Getting it home and selling my Golf could be a problem, but those are concerns for later :p
p.s. anyone know if that exhaust is stock?

If that car is still there and it has an engine and interior, buy it!!!! Exhaust looks to be aftermarket. We helped our son buy a similiar one (has had a motor swap and paint job) for $2,000 and we bought a beater for $1,000 and my track 4000 (with the motor swap) was $1,800. So, as you can see, $630 bucks is cheap!!!
The stock 4000 engine is quite reliable too! Besides, the 4000 quattro will be the BEST car in the snow that you have EVER driven!!!
OK, go buy it tomorrow! hehe
