It just looks expensive.
From the MK4 to the MK5 the GLI went up almost 4 grand in price. If this tends to be a trend I don't think I will be able to afford a VW in the future.
looks mean, I likey.
As far as price, similarly equiped cars haven't changed much, the window sticker on my 96 2.0 GTI is $23K............................. my 2006 V.E. that has stuff my 96 doesn't was $20K....................

That IS the Scirocco concept. If you read the article, they decided to go with a fresh design, instead of retro.

This is what I am talking about:
http://www.autoinsidernews.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/03/concept_vwscirocco.jpg(which is labeled as the new Scirocco but doesn't look the same, actually better)
Below is the Corrado concept. It looks like they took designs from this and the new Scirocco to make the pic above.

Those were just pictures. The article on Vortex is what really became of all that hype.

Where do I sign up?
If VW does decide to make this and release it in the states, its going to have to have at least 300hp and AWD. It should be competetive against the new Dodge Challenger, new Camaro, and the Mustang.
300HP would also keep it in line with the new Evo, and STi's.
Where's the line? I want in.

Why does it have to be competitive with the Camarao, ShitStang, and Challenger? These cars aren't even in the same category, or sales bracket???
Should they make it as luxurious as a Maybach while they're at it?

Looks like a next gen Eclipse.
I do like it, but it's got no Scirocco-ness to it whatsoever. I see a lot of the Bora R-GT cues in it.

Because those Vehicles are going to be in the same price bracket, and all are coupes. If VW releases this car, expect it to run around $25+ at the base model. It will be classsed as a sports car, and will need to keep up with these models in order to generate sales. Not all buyers are going to be dubbers, they are buying because of power and functionality. If VW can make it on par with these cars, its going to steal away those potential buyers from the big 3. They need to be able to sell these cars to everyone, not just enthusiasts.
Cheers, Travis

I disagree. Those are all domestic RWD, V8 muscle cars, not a Teutonic FWD/AWD 4 cylinder turbo/supercharged hatchback - very different market segments. The R32 was never compared to the Mustang, or the Camaro, or anything similar, why would this new "rocco" be?

With the release of the new Challenger and Camaro about the same time this car come out, it has to be, or they aren't going to sell enough of them.
Also don't expect the twin charger to make it to the states any time soon. The US market is soo different than the German and European market. This model will most likely use the 2.0T with 4 motion or the new VR6.
VW needs to build something that gets the HP junkies heart thumping. This is the way to break into that market. After the whole GX3 fiasco, consumers want to see something great from VW. This needs to deliver.

IMO, I think there's very few of the type of people who buy new domestic RWD "muscle" cars that would even consider buying a performance oriented VW. That's based on knowing a lot of people that are into that kind of thing.

I don't know, every muscle car people I know have respect for the VW's and a few hot rodders run the twin turbo diesel toureg for tow vehicles.
VW's were the kids hot rod back in the day, and with the realese of the GX3 at VW's presence at SEMA last year, a lot of hot rodders are looking at VW's for thier daily drivers, but they want something that has the umpff.
The toureg or passat is perfect for the wifey or as your primary vehicle while your 56 Ford 100 hot rod is chillin in the garage.
VW= Low cost luxury sports. There's way more standard features than the overpriced Magnum's and such. That's what I have noticed with the market. No one can afford the gas on the big V8's anymore and want something economical and quick to get to work and back. Then go racing on the weekend with thier other rides.
