okay so i thought i got most of my car problems fixed and i was doing fine, on the way into work today my car throws another code and gets all gimpy like running on 3 cyclinders.. i make it into work and pull the codes (had my friends vag in the trunk) and it says cylinder misfire, and running rich.... this happened before hand and it was a bad spark plug.. but now i'm worried cause that was only like 5 months ago.. what would make my car run rich like that? any ideas???

It may be one of your o2 sensors or possibly a MAF sensor.

And since admittedly I'm not very technical hopefully someone else will chime in...

i was thinking about that.. about 2 months ago i replaced my MAF but when i bought it from performance cafe they said it was a vr6 MAF but can be used on a 1.8t if the housing is switched out, which i did.. but my car has been kinda acting funny since then.. sounds like i am gonna have to pony up the $300 for the 1.8t MAF now :(.. btw i just switched out my plugs for some autolites and it's better but still kinda fluttering..

Talk to Mike at PureMS. I think he's selling MAF's for $150 new.

Run down the list: coilpacks, plugs, coolant sensor, maf, and O2 sensor.

If misfires are strictly on #3, then buy a coilpack and see if it fixes it. Car would probably run worse if it were a CP, though. Change the plugs. Green top coolant sensor is like $15—everyone should have one anyway. If it still runs bad, do the maf, then the O2 sensor.

I take that first part back. If it's misfiring on three, switch the coilpack from cyl 3 (passenger to driver...1234) over to another and see if the misfire switches to that cylinder. If so, that's your problem.

When is the last time you took your DV apart to clean it and regrease it? It could be sticking closed that could also cause your car run rich and throw a code.
