My passenger window crapped out on me... :( I was rolling the window down and thenk "clunk"!!! It looks like the window slipped a gear or something... But when I opened it up, I couldn't figure out what was wrong.... I was thinking that it might be like how the Corrado was built with the cheap little plastic peice that holds the window up... but I can't seem to find anything... I am completly stumped... All I have there now is a 2x4 holding up the window... Can someone help? I have no knowledge of fixing a bmw... and I don't want to take it to a shop or anything... prefer to save some money.

Does the electric motor still work?

I bet it's one of the white plastic clips that fasten on the window regulator. The rails that they slide in sometimes gets gunked up and sticky causing the regulator to pop off the clips.

If that's what happened then you'll need the new white clips. Hopefully your regulator isn't bent otherwise you'll need one of them too.

The regulator still works... Yea! That's what I was thinking too. I was hoping that it's just the cruddy white clip... But I can't tell, because I was unable to take the regulator off of the door....

If it's anything like the E36, in order to remove the regulator you have to drill out the rivets and replace them with M6(?) bolts/nuts.

really? :( I unbolted the regulator... But the only problem is, I cannot pull it down... It looks as though it's caught on something... But I can't tell what.... I remember with my corrado, I had to drill holes in the door to get the regulator to come off... but with this car It has bolts...I just unbolted them but was unsuccessful at removing the thing...

These regulators are garbage, If you have CPO its covered, if not and If you have a coupe, you have to take the inside scraper off, and the glass out, five 10MM nuts on the reg and the E7 (reverse torx) that hold the glass in are reverse thread. There is a clip that holds the cable against the inside of the door to keep it from hitting the glass, thats probably what is stuck.

also, mark the glass before you take it out by drawing a line on the glass flush with the mirror triangle seal, it makes it easy to line back up because coupe windows are a M.F. to adjust

cool. I'll check that out. My car has more than 100k on it.. :( Thanks for the info on the window. I have a four door, but it's similar to what you just said, I'll check that out tomorrow. :D

four door is easy, don't have to take the glass out, and the cable clips in right about mid door

unbolt your side airbag, but dont disconnect it or you will get an airbag light if you have to turn on the key, let it hang while you get the vapor barrier off, then put a bolt back in to hold it up while you work.

To get the glass off the slides, have the glass about 1/4 of the way up, then you can see the 8MM bolt through a window in the tract, loosen it a few turns, DON'T take it out, then lever the tabs below it (red plastic) out and up with a flat blade screw driver whilt you pull up on the glass, put the glass all the way up and tape it to hold it.

make sure to clip the cable back in place in the middle of the inside of the door or it will rattle on your window when its down

BMW uses crappy plastic wheels on the regulator. BMA Auto in Glendale sells replacement regulators and they're not too hard to R/R. When you hear the dreaded thud or crunch, regulator replacement time! Good luck!
