Paul,
Well where to begin. We flew commercial out of San Diego International
to Atlanta then to Frankfurt, Germany then to Dubai, United Arab
Emirates, then to Doha, Qatar. That whole evolution took about 2 and
1/2 days and then we were bused to Al Udeid air base at around 4 am.
The sun was up by about 4:30 am and it looked like noon by about 6 am.
By 8 am it was a cool 95F and got up to about 110 during the day. We
just kinda sat there for about 5 days till we were able to swing a
C-130 out to Afghanistan. We landed around 8 at night, and within 30
minutes after we landed they started firing rockets at the base. They
didn't hit anything. The following day they fired more rockets at us
(within 100 yards) causing 2 casualties, and something triggered a
land mine as well. There are tons of mines here on base and they blow
them up all day long. We take fire daily out here... it's pretty
crazy. The news does no justice to what is being done... Ugghh.. I
will get into details about stuff later...I live in a wood hut, and
sleep in a sleeping bag, but it could be much worse. We have pretty
much everything out here that we need vice a few small items... I
could use some coffee (1 pound, Starbucks Gold Coast Blend, already
ground), and some film to shoot pictures. A couple of rolls... maybe
some Ilford ISO 50 black and white and some nice color film, maybe
Agfa 100, or something along those lines. That's about all for now
man. Take it easy and let me know how thing are going out there.
Thanks man,
Mike
