BMW 5 series sales were down 20% in Sept (down as much as 50% in July) and are down 10% year to date. 7 series, down 19% in Sept (down 45% in July!) and 16% year to date. Z4? Down 10% in Sept and 22% year to date.

I think people are finally realizing that BMW is overpriced, I may be partial to Audi since I own one, but when you compare audi to bmw, you get so much more in an audi than a bmw

damn that is not good at all. i thought the new 5 series would have surely boosted up the sales.

for the $$, audi is better than BMW ... but BMW definitely got the performance aspect down

Audi just needs to come out with high output motors without excessive body weight

the problem i see is that Audi and quattro makes for a heavy vehicle. If they could some how reduce some extra weight, the car would perform

but without getting rid of quattro

I drove the new 545i with idrive this past weekend but it was the automatic version...anyway, yeah the car is way overpriced for what it offers. Way too soft all around...the engine is torquey but masked by the car's heavy weight. The car is well crafted don't get me wrong, but it just doesn't seem like a car based on what BMW standards once were...and that idrive, oh man what a confusing piece of electronics. There's no way the driver can drive and fiddle with that thing at the same time and not end up in a wreck.

but the E39 M5 haha that's another story! Drove one of those with Dinan chip, Supersprint exhaust, and AC Schnitzer coil overs the same past weekend...oh man what a beast!

Couldn't have anything to do with Bangle, could it?

I would much rather suggest that it has to do with current economic conditions and politcal scenarios. If it were Bangle, the 5ser and 7ser wouldn't be selling at all and then it could be directly attributed to his designs.

Face it, the instantaneous surge in luxury car purchases in the last 4 years has been a direct reflection of the boom that the real estate market has created. This year springs uncertainty and reality in that market and people are stretched too thin in their 'investments'. That means a cut in the extravagant spending dept.

That, and Bangle. The 7 isn't selling. The 5 isn't selling like a 5 should. The Z4 is weak. The 6 is nice, but too soft in looks and too big in price.

IMO.

Some of us dont really like what Bangles designs have to offer. Many of us true BMW enthusiasts think they take away from the once elegant yet agressive and simple lines of the older body styles. IMO the new designs are the primary reason that BMW has not been doing as well in sales. Preformance on the other hand, is just getting better and better. So I just it just boils down to how you like the new cars that BMW's rollin out with. Also, personally I dont care for the e60's body, but could see past that for its wounderfull engine along with its new 7-speed tranny.

IF if was a Fifth....we'd all be drunk.

BMWs are priced the way they are because BMW is targeting a specific market for their cars....and thats the bottom line.

oooooooo burrrrrrrrrrrrn.

That's bangle as far as I'm concearned. Beemers were cool cars and their sales figures showed it.

Audi's numbers aren't as bad.

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Sept. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Audi of America, Inc. sales for the month of August were 6,473 compared to 8,281 in August 2003. Audi year-to-date sales are 51,464 vs. 57,343.

Both the all-aluminum A8 and sporty A4/S4 reported increases for the month of August. The A8 was up 22.0 percent with August sales of 666 vs. 546, and the A4/S4 Cabriolet increased sales by 9.2 percent with sales of 806.

Audi Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) business continued its positive results with 2,225 units sold for the month of August. Year-to-date CPO sales are 15,878, up 15.8 percent from 2003 year-to-date sales of 13,750.

Carl, this topic is originally about newer designed BMW's. 7'r, 5'r, Z4

they didnt state anything about the 3 series sales.

But if you want to try to defend all of BMW .. go for it

exactly ... this wasnt a post about cars being worth it or not worth it ... or who's got a better car

its simple as the current sales of the company

You'll probably find auto sales are down, period, moreso for gas-guzzling luxury vehicles than economy (hell, isn't the Prius the only one with sales going sky high?)

The answer is fairly simple: no one can afford a pricy vehicle right now.

Same trend in real estate. Housebuying has slowed down as well.

Good looking cars, just the dash needs to be re-invented.

Or the threat of taxes going up with a new democratic political power always affects high end spending.

I rather drive a used BMW than a new VW. My friends with those cars have such stupid little problems.
