yes, though it wasn't "powdered" wasabi (I'm not even sure wtf powdered wasabi is, or where you might get it, or why you might want it...besides for snorting of course)

here is Steve-o doing it but as said earlier it was just regular wasabi and not powdered. From what I have heard powdered wasabi is much hotter.

Doesn't Wasabi normally come as a powder, then you mix it with water, and that is how you get the paste.

Most wasabi powder and paste in American sushi restaurants is just horseradish and mustard powder. Real wasabi actually isn't that damaging to the nose, there's a flavor to it that isn't really accentuated in the wasabi Americans like to shock the system.

In other words, that was a dude snorting horseradish, which will produce exactly that reaction to some people who just ingest it (try a prime rib with freshly grated horseradish instead of the creamed one).

I think the only time I can truly say I had real wasabi was in Japan, and not in Tokyo, but in Nagano at a small restaurant specializing in soba dishes. And that's because I was grating actual wasabi root. Otherwise, I can't really tell if a mild, flavored wasabi paste at a sushi restaurant is either real wasabi or crap imitation wasabi without the zing.

Still. That was pretty stupid of him, and funny for me.

Powered is much hotter. The paste sort of dilutes the wasabi.

I get mine at Mitsuwa. I gave some to my brother because he said "my friend snorted wasabi and said it wasn't that bad".
