I'm looking for opinions so here's the deal:

I hit something on the road late at night early in September. I wasn't going to claim it on my insurance because I could order the parts and repair the car myself. The damage was cosmetic (I thought  ), bumper, valance, fender liner, and that cover that's underneath the car behind the valance.

As it turns out the damage was WAY more extensive. both cv boots, joints and axles were done. Now I have to claim it. I take it to a shop after a dealer tries to shit on me for a set of coilovers. They said they would do the work, but would not warranty their work because of the suspension. The shop proceeds to write up the estimate. There are some things that are accident related and some things that are my responsibility. As usual there are also some grey areas which I believe the shop shaded in my favor.

I take my car thinking the work is fine and everything is cool. I go to another dealer (Riverside VW) and get a much different treatment. Nice place. Anyway I get my 40k done and they find one of the cv boots has just split open and it's flinging grease all over my rotor and underside of the car. The right side wasn't even replaced and there is a small hole in that boot. The tech is almost positive that the boot is the wrong one and that the clamps are wrong. The insurance company says I have to have the shop repair the work. I then find that the stuff wasn't replaced at all but sent out and rebuilt. They then put it on the insurance estimate as new parts at a substantial profit. A VERY good friend loans me a car and now needs it back.

If the car is not ready today I'll need a rental should I look to the shop to pay for this rental as their initial repairs were not correct?

I'd talk to the shop and your insurance. If your insurance paid for new parts I'm sure they will hassle the shop enough. Some insurance companies will pay for a rental during the time that your car is in the shop, you just have to ask.
Sorry to hear about all this crap happening to you. Hopw you get everything worked out and get your dub back out on the road.

i would say call your insurance rep. it will carry more weight if they lean on the shop to give you a rental. they were basically attempting to defraud the insurance company, so i'm sure they will do whatever your insurance company says.

Thanks for the input guys. I'll know by 3 today whether the car is done and I'll take it from there.
