View Full Version : A major national speech to reply to a debate!?

Bush changes scheduled speech to one where he addresses the first debate. (http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/afp/20041005/wl_afp/us_vote_bush_speech_041005112654)
There is something pathetic about the summary use of executive power to drop a previously scheduled speech in favor of "I need to recover from losing a one-on-one debate by using a national forum where no one can talk back" speech.
This is a campaign. Equal time is REQUIRED.

Exactly? What the hell are you talking about? If this is the caliber of Kerry's voters, man I feel bad for him...

Misworded. Essentially, using the office of the presidency and its dialogue with the nation as a campaign speech.
Replying to a debate in a speech that was formerly national business is a misuse of the office. It also denies the candidate the ability to reply, which is the point of a debate.

I think you are reading way too much into this.
Bush plans a campaign speech on Subject A, he then changes his mind and decides to talk about Subject B instead. He's talking to an invitation only crowd in the blackhole of America(otherwise known as Pennsylvania).
Did I miss the part where the networks are going to preempt for Bush's speech, since that is the only way equal time would apply.

Provided the speech does not preempt network programming, I rescind my protest.

Yet more proof that Bush's handlers are the real (and only) brains behind him.. Kerry could have a field-day with this..
bush is just a bumbling idiot......period. Him and his string pullers have the combined intelligence of a half empty bottle of wine. I see more and more Kerry/Edwards stickers everyday. I guess that means people are catching on.

You mean the commanding lead that Bush has in electoral votes....or the commanding lead that Kerry has in electoral votes....or the slight lead Kerry has in electoral votes...or the slight lead Bush has in electoral votes?
This election is too close to call.

Very, very close.
It's almost odd.
Four years ago, the election was too close to call because of apathy. Now, it's too close to call for quite the opposite reaction.
