Hey guys... Just wondering if this is a good idea. I bought my 2007 MKV Rabbit back in July. I really like my car. Its nice and I get compliments every now and then. However, the 2.5 leaves a lot to be desired. I miss having a turbo. I originaly wanted a Rabbit because I wanted better fuel economy and a cheaper rate for insurance. But only 1 of those things changed from upgrading to the Rabbit from a MKIV GTI. I get about the same milage as my chipped 1.8t but my insurance is 100$ cheaper on the rabbit! So now I'm thinking of perhaps trading in my 2.5 for a 2.0T. My buddie has a 2.0T and to be honest I don't like the GTI front end. But the interior is awesome on the GTI. And the whole front end can be swapped for a Rabbit front end. So if I do upgrade to the 2.0T my insurance would most likely go up. And I'd get the same fuel economy as a 2.5 but I'd have to put 91 instead of 87 like the 2.5 (87 on the 2.5 HELL YES!)... so I dunno!!! ugh!! Wish I could have both! hahah :) If I do keep the 2.5 I'd like to do a golf gt front end.

Pic for clicks!

DUde!!...your rabbit is clean!!...I own a GTI 1.8t Mkiv...but im waiting for the new MKV R32..but I would keep your car because everyone will show you the same amount of respect wether you have a 2.0t or a 2.5..plus if you get a faster car you'll run the risk of getting tickets and stuff like that'...I dont know but it's really up to you bro, but regardless your car is piMp!!

Awwww, thanks! Really! I do love my car just wish it was a little faster... I'm tired of being scared of merging into traffic or wondering if I can pass the jack ass in front of me. You know?

Edit: Where you at the PCH Cruise? I think I saw your car... your part of Blitzkrieg eh? Nice car regarless ;)

I had the 2.5 Jetta, bought it for the same reasons you did...I also felt the same way you did after driving it for 2 weeks. I missed the power of my VR6..then they wanted to add another 80.00 to my payments..*Murrieta VW bitches* So they pretty much helped with my decision to upgrade to the GLI. A friend of my family is the general sales manager @ Drew VW in El Cajon...I got 3K more for my VR and am paying pretty much the same thing I was for the 2.5.

You could always turbo or s/c your 2.5. If not, definitely trade.

Financialy would it make sense? I mean I would have to put another down payment for the GTI and im sure they wouldn't give me what I owe on the rabbit... :( I can't afford a down payment at this time.

Thats an idea... but no real kits are available and i wouldn't wanna have a non turbo car turbo'd as a daily.

cars depreciate in value no matter what you do, that is just the nature of the beast. i would enjoy your rabbit for what it is, very efficient at saving money at the pump (lucky shithead, using 87... mann, i wish i could... hehehe) and an outstanding economical choice. save for the R32, when you have enough and possibly paid off your rabbit. sell the rabbit privately that way you get more for it then get the R32 if you want more power. i wouldn't put too much into your rabbit if you know that you are going to get rid of it in the near future for something with a little more power. that's just what i would do if i were in your shoes.

then again, if it was me...
i would just get a bimmer. hehehe...

Keep the Rabbit, the 2.5 isn't a race motor, but has plenty of pep, and great torque, it looks bitchin already, and I hear rumors of a Neuspeed turbo kit in development that will crack 300 HP, shouldn't be a problem as the 2.5 motor is appearently overbuilt

VWAG is supposed to be releasing a turbo inline five for the Audi TT. I would assume it will be based off the current inline five that is in the VW's. Just food for thought.

yea i heard about that... but a lot of threads (vortex - not confirmed tho) suggest that its similar engine as the current 2.5 but with better internals or something... not sure. wish it was the same engine without the turbos that would be niiiice :D

I think I would try to stick it out and see what turbo kits they are gonna mack for it. It would be a total sleeper.
