I don't know why I am on this woodworking kick considering I have ZERO talent for it.

because once you learn that you can tape back the safety and shoot nails all over......

you'll realize that you need to buy better safety glasses too............

Though, you could go after a Brad nailer and mould and rail every room in the house...

You NEED one Tony... My day has a kick ass one that uses batteries and compressed air canisters. Makes cool noises after each shot.

I would actually go for a finish nailer first as it is far more versatile than a brad.

The smaller brad nailers do both

I've got hammers. My father is in construction. I grew up with a hammer in one hand and a finishing trowel in the other. How I wound up a programmer is still a family mystery. :p

Saving money is a good point though. I'm thinking maybe there will be some sales on equipment a little further into winter with the housing market slowing and the jobsites getting wet and snowy. Also the new lineups of tools will be coming out soon so there may be some deals to be had on older model stuff. Right now the only sales are on the homeowner grade gear. For not that much more I might be able to get a nice jobsite setup if I wait for a good deal.

Well the reason I said a finish nailer is because you will be able to do a bigger gauge and longer nail which will be beneficial if you are doing say hard wood flooring. Brad nailers are great for finish work and i would get both but would start off with a finish.

Good point. I wasn't thinking about heavier finishing nails. I've been mostly looking at something for putting together furniture and cabinet type stuff and maybe some moulding.

I need to get back into dixiline and take a look at what size nails these things drive. I want to get something I can make use of right away and then maybe go back and get another. I'm not opposed to getting a couple different guns to start but Susan... she would probably kill me with one of them. I have to build something to justify all this before I go too much further in my shop tool purchases. My only saving grace at this point is that she wants to build things too. :D

When my dad and I build furniture we primarily use the Finish nailer as it can drive up to a 2" or so nail. The brad is really nice for smaller trim moulding but not big enough for putting together boxes and frames. Also if you do any finish cabinets I would invest in a Kregs jig. They are simply awesome for fastening face frames and such without having any holes. http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page=11410&SearchHandle=DADADJDJDADADDDGDGGCGEDDGEDIGBGCCNDDD AGBDACNDEGBGFGFCNDIDCDJDICNDJDBDIDDDJDFDGGGDFGEDFD CDADADADBDADADADADFGLHCGFGHHDDADADADEDADADADADADAD ADBDFDADADADBDADADADADADADADADADADADADBDADADADADFG LHCGFGHHDDADADADBDB&filter=kregs

????

First you buy the brad nailer...then you realize you need a compound miter saw...then clamps...then you get a few air tools for the garage but realize the 4 gallon pancake compressor is only good for nailers, so you need a bigger compressor...snowball! I'm at 2nd compressor shopping...:)
