So I going to China in January. Wanted to see what people recommend I bring regarding gear.
I'm hoping to pick up a Nikon 18-200 lense. Considering purchasing a new camera bag to hold everything for my trip, as well as use it for when I'm sightseeing. What else would you recommend? Also looking to see what tripods would be good for traveling with.

i got a backpack....Tamrac........
it has dual zippers on all the pockets........so you can put tiny locks on them.....help thwart pick pockets. padded straps are nice....and the newest model has a slot for a laptop.
it holds like 3 or 4 lenses plus body with battery grip on it. I like it.
best tripod, least amount of segments in the legs = best stability, but also means longer closed overall length. Your 3021B is a great tripod, not too heavy and very sturdy. Just lug it around.

Here's what I brought to Ireland this summer;
Canon 20D w. vertical grip/battery pack
Canon 24-70 f2.8
Canon 70-200 f4.0
Canon 550EX
Lots of extra batteries
8GB Memory
Misc accessories (Omnibounce, Whibal, lens cleaners, etc...)
Macbook Pro w. USB card reader
Lowepro Trekker II bag
Small 'day' bag (extra memory, battery, accessories..)
Nighly backups of all images to home server was also pretty high up on my list. I didn't bring a tripod since mine is soooo fucking heavy, kinda wish I had a lightweight unit.

My bag works as a carry on when it's fully loaded, so it's not too big. I don't like carrying it around with me cause it's freakin heavy as hell (which is why I bring a small day bag) with everything in it.

Have you been to China before? Keep in mind, you'll probably want to lug around as little as possible due to you walking most places, and theft. If you carry everything in one bag and it dissappears, so do your hopes of enjoying the rest of your trip. Don't get me wrong, China has changed a lot, last time I was there Coke billboards were just coming up, so It's been a while. I would think if you wouldn't walk around TJ (as an example) with that stuff, you probably shouldn't walk around China with it either.
He's Chinese, he just needs to get some local clothign and they'll leave him alone.

I have that bag. It's big, but fits in the overhead on the plane. When you get it loaded with camera, lenses, computer, and accessories, it gets heavy. That would be a good bag to get everything over there in, but I would get something else for the day trips.

the only thing that made me hesitant on the laptop bag was theft. if it gets stolen with laptop in it, there goes everything.
I bought a shoulder bag instead and like it a lot.
