I was out driving around with my wife tonight, and I was wondering, by a show of hands, how many other people driving around just to look at Christmas lights?
Ok, keep your hands up if you think that driving around looking at Christmas lights would make for a good cruise. I don't know about other areas of San Diego, but in Rancho Bernardo, there are a few neighborhoods that really put some effort into decorating. That would be fun to get a line of Audis, BMWs, Mercedes, V-Dubs, Volvos and maybe an SVX out there to see some lights. This would be a fun one for the wives/GFs, or husbands/BFs (the significant other of the car person) and of course, kids, since it would be like driving around looking at Christmas lights, but there would just happen to be a bunch of European cars driving around with you.

One of the things that made me think about this, is because of one neighborhood on the west side of the 15, in RB. They line the streets with candles in paper bags. I'm talking about THOUSANDS of them. I don't know if it was on the news, but it really was something to see.

I could lead through the best of RB, and then someone else could lead through another part of town. Maybe we could have several cruises going at the same time. Each cruise could have a photographer to post a "best of" from each cruise.
But I think they only do that on Christmas Eve, and I'm guessing that most people don't want to do any kind of meet on Christmas Eve.

So for next year, would there be any interest in something like this?
Discuss.

You're talking about Christmas Card Lane and that's not RB, it's Rancho Penasquitos. My wife and I went through there on Sunday evening.

I go with my family every year to look at Christmas lights, it's part of our tradition! Xmas is huge in our family, so we have quite a few lame lil things we do. :D JK My mom was one of the judges for their hood this year....

Theres a christmas tree lane in Clairemont and my x's family has a house right on the corner of the cul de sac. We were chilling there last night...it's cool watching all the cars and people go by while your eating lumpias and drinking beer looking out the window.

Also when I lived in Rancho Bernardo off of West Bernardo Drive, they did do the candles in the bag deal...seemed like millions of them

OK, I just looked at a map. It is West Bernardo Drive in RB. (between the Elephant Bar and DiCrisenzos) Yeah, it seems more like millions than thousands. They lined every street and even the driveways of the parking lots.

But Christmas Card Lane sounds like another place to see. Nefarious can lead us through there.
If there is interest in doing this, someone needs to remind me to plan it out next year.

We usually go to Pt. Loma off of Chatsworth. There's a block of homes that just go decor crazy.

one time, 5 days after I got my license and was handed down my mothers '91 190E, I went for a Christmas Eve drive with a special girl to "check out the Christmas lights".

and on Christmas morning, this was in my driveway:

totaled.

my uncle used my hood ornament as a last minute stocking stuffer!

obviously, it wasn't my fault...but I still get sketched out when someone says "hey lets drive around real late at night during the holidays and check out all the really distracting/blinding light displays"
