heya

I went on a canyone cruise with my coworker for the first time, he has a 04 wrx (stock 5spd,azenis tires, swaybar) and i have a 00 s4 tip (revo chip 19psi and stock everything else)

he led the way for us on the whole trip since he knew it like the back of his hand. The thing is i could barely keep up with him on the turns and straight aways. my tires were squueeeeling alot! and didnt seem to pull that hard on the straights. i currently have pirelli p60's and am now thinking of upgrading to something a little more aggressive (azenis or pole positions)
Im just confused as to why he was able to leave me so far behind on the straights.. as for the turns, im just thinking the s4 is just too heavy and had lots of body roll (also my first run... and was scared to fall off the cliff  ) also after about 30min of nonstop twisties... i smell lots of burning...!!! I was glad to see it was only my brakes. I will be upgrading my braking system, 19mm sway bar, new tires, maybe new wheels. It was the most intense driving experience i ever had... but for some reason i want to go back.... but prepared. there is no point to this story... just wanted to share the experience.

definitely need better tires ...
are you chipped? if not, then you need that to keep up with the WRX

the WRX is a great car ... the s4 definitely will keep up with the right tires and a chip and a suspension upgrade

the stock b5 s4 suspension is pretty soft

you might need more experience with AWD also

i am chipped, also I really felt that the suspension was really too soft for this kind of driving.. and i especially need more exp with awd. (probably need to sign up for some driving school) didnt know I wasnt supposed to break while turning.... but it was just a natural reaction, that i coulndt help

yea go to track events, a much safer environment to hone your skills. You'll learn wayy more on a track day than on a month of canyon runs.

If you have some mileage (30K+) on the S4 it's time for struts, bushings at minimum. The stockers won't perform beyond that. Good coilovers worth a look.

If your tires are anywhere near the wear bars then it's time for those too.

A chipped S4 should easily keep up with a WRX on the straights. Maybe a tuneup?

are coilovers worth getting if i dont change ride hieght much? is adjustability of ride height the only difference vs a good shock /spring combo?

also which bushings would i need to replace?

thanks for your help:tup:
