Anyone do tranny work?

Trying to get my car together. Got two trannys, one has a limited slip differential (which is why I bought it), a bad fifth gear (got a TDI fifth ready to go), and according to the local shit-hole transmission shop needs $1200 worth of bearings and synchros. Whatever. The other tranny is the one that came out of my car, and should be pretty alright...but I need that LSD in there. So, anyone there got a hookup on some tranny work that can either repair the bad tranny or swap over the differentials without raping me? I'm essentially broke. Wait, I take that back, I'm just broke.
