So, I have a Craftsman compressor indentical to the one pictured here http://s7.sears.com/is/image/Sears/00916644000?rgn=0,0,1000,1000&scl=4&fmt=jpeg
After reading the manual I see the oil could leak if I lay it down in the car to transport it. My ? is: would this affect the performance of the compressor? I would of course replace the oil that could be lost, but... are there any more precautions I should take?
Thanks

Are you sure that isn't an oilless? Looks like one.

In all honesty, I don't know. The manual talks about oil. I'll have to take a closer look at it.

Not true. My makita is oil lubricated and it is not a gas compressor. That compressor picture though is definitely and oil less compressor

For future reference, the electric oiled compressors typically have a breather in their fill caps. If you turn it sideways the oil leaks out there. You would just need to fill it back up. It would be best for your car interior to just drain it first.
The electrics are oiled just for lubrication in the crankcase and on the piston. It helps them run quieter and decreases wear obviously. Its usually on the bigger compressors or those aimed at professionals that use it everyday. The typical weekend warrior doesn't like messing with oiled models and usually buys a new compressor before theirs actually wears out.

every compressor is going to require some oil. Think about how they work in principle

Yeah but "oiled" models actually have oil in the crankcase that you have to change every so often.
The compressor you find in the typical family garage does not have much oil in it. Its pre-oiled and sealed from the factory so you never have to do an oil change. It decreases the life and sometimes the performance of the unit but not by an amount that makes it worth the maintenance for most people given how much they use it. The compressor is usually long gone by the time they start having any noticable issues with it.
