Just bought my first pistol this morning. Thanks to the recomendation of Paul, I went with a Sig P226R Navy. Now I just have to wait for it to get here and my 10 days.

The gun was $700, to get it into Cali and registered is another $105. But thats still less than a new 226 Navy

Congrats and nice choice, be careful, it starts with one, the next thing you know, you have a giant ass safe like me or Paul full of stuff, like my most recent purchase last month (sorry to thread hijack, but how many new gun threads do we need!)

Ruger stainless Redhawk .44 Mag 7 1/2" barrel (shown with my offical Casa Bonita Sheriff badge) and a Razr for size comparison

i want an ak47 and a 50mm, stupid california.

mike
02-06-2007, 09:16 PM
I'm sure you mean .50 cal, not 50MM, unless you are worried of a home invasion by a tank or armored vehicle!

I have an AK47, pre ban along with the 30 round mags, pre ban also. Unfortunately, no more fun stuff in the state of Kalifornia.

here is a teaser

yeah the redhawk and super redhawk are a real heavy duty large frame revolver, meant for thousands of rounds of hot ammo without any wear.

Turner's has an AK22 for sale. Looks like a 47 but chambered in .22lr.

As for me, my second purchase is going to be an M1A Squad Scout.

yeah, I saw the ad, .22LR is alot cheaper to shoot than 7.62X39, Last time I took my SKS out, I bought a bunch of russian wolf ammo, non corrosive, it was ok for plinking

But I have a ruger 10/22 and some 30 rounders for the desert. The mags are illegal to BUY in CA, not to own. just make sure there are no date stampings on the mags.

M1A is a nice gun, heavy as hell, but nice and durable and pack alot of power, more so than an M16, next one I'm after is an AR15

I've been using Paul's, his is the loaded model with the med. match barrel and match sites. I held a Super Match the other night and that thing is friggin heavy. It makes a standard M1A feel like a BB gun, lol.

Yeah but the 10/22 isn't close to being as fun as the sks.:p
I picked up 1,000 rounds of wolf for $170 at the gun show last sunday
and 800 rounds of steel core, bullet proof glass ripping, 762x54 for 80 bucks.
10 cents a round and 50 times bigger and funner then the .22lr.

But I have a ruger 10/22 and some 30 rounders for the desert. The mags are illegal to BUY in CA, not to own. just make sure there are no date stampings on the mags.
Where did you get this info?
Is 30 the limit or could I get the 70 round tear drop mag?
That would be nice if I can use a couple of the big mags without
going to prison for 10 years.

you have to buy them next time you are out of state, a co-worker who use to have his FFL told me that little trick, as far as higher than 30 rounds, I think the same rules apply, but I will check. 10/22 is no biggie but......

My AK and 30 rounders rarely leave the house, just because I don't want to have to rely on law enforcement to understand the pre/post ban rules, and deal with the hassle, as they will probably just take it anyway and then sort it out after I call a lawyer and I will get a lot of eyeballs at the range

Ivan

I'll have to check the laws, but I doubt it.
Doesn't really make sense

u have to buy them next time you are out of state
For sure.
If anyone here does this do not use an out of state car (California). There
are atf agents who wright down the plate numbers, and whatever they see
you put in the car. After that, they call the chp and tell them to pull you over
when you enter california.

Is that a rem 870?

Paul

if you do NOT own pre-ban high capacity mags, buying and importing into the state of CA high cap mags = felony if you're caught... aka no firearms ownership anymore.

Gun laws are some of the most heavily enforced around.

Not something to fuck around with. If you're going to do it, do your research. I'll leave it at that...

that said I am in full legal compliance with the state laws related to high-cap mags.

There isn't anything I can't do with 10 rds that I'd need 30 to do. if i did i'm fucked anyway.

"I only need the one in the chamber" right Paul? ;)

Paul
02-07-2007, 10:36 PM
no, i need 1 in the chamber and 10 in the mag for whoever i'm shooting and their buddies... + a couple mags to reload ;)

Paul
02-07-2007, 10:37 PM
when in doubt, have more than 1 on hand ;)

no, i need 1 in the chamber and 10 in the mag for whoever i'm shooting and their buddies... + a couple mags to reload ;)If you are as prepared a shooter as I think you are, you'll always have one in the chamber. That's the message the quote is meant to convey :D

Ivan

Meh, the more bullets I can fire without
reloading, the better.

I'm no cop/judge, and don't have 1,000s
of $$ with me so I don't carry, thus I'll never have to worry about a
gun fight, but I can see that only 10 or less would be used if being shot at
unless I spray wildly behind my back while running away. lol
Even then, you'd be carrying several mags.

when in doubt, have more than 1 on hand ;)
Oh daym dawg.

10 is ample for your needs, like paul said, if you need more than that, you're fucked

All my hi caps are preban, thus in compliance with the laws, I will do some more research as like paul said, gun laws are the most heavily enforced. You don't want mags with a post ban date stamped on them, thats where you can get in loads of trouble. But I was told by a former FFL that you can buy them out of state and own them, I will ask if carring accross state lines is legal. In a grey area, better to error on the side of saftey.

Paul
02-08-2007, 07:52 AM
Carrying high capacity mags across state lines IS illegal, as is shipping them into CA. Unless you're law enforcement you're not permitted to purchase new high capacity magazines. However IF you have pre-ban magazines you are allowed to purchase rebuilding components of the magazine, such as springs, followers.

There is no gray area with high cap mags, you absolutely cannot import them into CA under any circumstances. =\

Whoever your former FFl was is wrong and I'd be worried that if they don't even know that information what else are the possibly mixing up on the DROS :P

Paul
02-08-2007, 07:54 AM
it's one thing if you're in a combat situation to need a lot of rounds to continuously maintain a rate of fire... it's another thing to need it in a self-defense situation.

when in doubt...
bring out the boomstick

I talked to him this morning and asked him to be a little more specific, he said it is illegal to ship or transport, but he never gets hassled. Not good enough for me.

He said he has been stopped by the BLM in the desert, but they just check to make sure the gun is registered to him pre ban, they have never hassled him on the mags

But still, I prefer to error on the side of saftey.

Ivan

Is it a 10 round cap on shotguns too?
I was arguing with my friend about this and he says
it's 8. :/

mike
02-08-2007, 03:56 PM
7+1 on shotguns

Paul
02-08-2007, 04:01 PM
shotgun capacity varies, you can actually get a detachable magazine fed shotgun, it just has to be a pump gun.

Ivan
02-08-2007, 05:56 PM
Yeah, I've seen those around.
I was talking about legal limit.

So it's 7?
That sucks.

Paul
02-08-2007, 05:57 PM
hehe not sure if it's 7, but it's a shotgun, if you need more than 7 you're a horrible shot or you're way fucked and no amount of ammo will save you.

I remember this company, I think it was called "sidewinder" that made a 10 round drum or mag for the mossberg, the kit was around $200.

We'll get some desert time in soon, I should be aquiring a new vehicle soon that doesn't get high centered on a speed bump
