They're replacing the Ion with the Opel Astra from Europe.

In this article (http://www.autoblog.com/2007/02/04/chicago-preview-2008-saturn-astra/) it says there are minimal changes between the euro version and the US version.

I think it's a good looking hatch. I drove the Saturn Aura (which is another re-badged Opel product) and was very impressed.

It'll only be available with the 140hp Ecotec initially, but I wonder if they have plans to bring some of the hotter motors over, like the 236 hp/236tq Astra Vxr!

as a general rule, saturns will be rebranded opels here in the US....which is a great idea, imho.

in messico they have been rebranding opels as chevys for some time.

Yup, and I applaud the move. I wish we could convince Ford to do the same.

Yeah I like the fact that Saturn's goin' euro... The Outlook, Aura, and soon to be Astra...... They all drive awesome! haha, when i first PDI an Aura, it smelt exactly like the new passats do on the inside ;) I guess they're trying to become more upscale, no more S cars for them...

But kicking and punching full force into their dent resistant doors it just too much fun.

i would actually buy that saturn..... then keep it in my garage closed up, till my opel emblems came from europe... replace the emblems... and THEN... I would drive that sucker! I know what "lostntainted" means by the badging. If they were just to keep the opel badges, people would buy it. But I like the fact that Saturn isgoing euro!

Saturn's got a loooong way to go to shake off that stigma. Maybe if it's successful, we'll see more true euro cars over here. Bring us some good diesel motors while your at it!!

what Saturn really needs is a v8, all the rest of gm has it... I mean atleast they have supercharged ions and turbo skys, but a LT1 v8 would be sweet, maybe in the Aura! lol

LT1 is old school now. Great engine (sucky optispark!), but it has since been surpassed by the newer LS-series blocks.

You mean LS1/2 ;)

.. or LS7. :D
