April/May = 2-3 months of prep. That's not a lot. Setting up this event usually takes us 5-6 months.

it's way too expensive, don't think NASA would do anything in a parking lot, but SCCA maybe... but the cost of having a half lot is huge. We can't afford it without charging spectators and we won't do that =\

Not likely. Unless we know how many of each are coming, or they have their own meet spot and roll in together, it makes it more difficult to get everyone parked trying to do it that way.

The closest thing to that would probably be sections grouped by make of vehicle (i.e. VW, BMW, Audi, etc.) but that would still be a bitch to organize.

I highly doubt it but we won't rule it out just yet. There are a few challenges we would need to work through.

The biggest problem is that the RSVP isn't entirely accurate. People that say they are coming don't and people that don't say they are coming do. That makes it very hard to designate space for the different makes and models.

The next problem is that people don't listen to the parking volunteers. When you have to park 700+ cars that come in waves of 100 at a time, all you want to do is get people out of the street and parked. Its a thankless job that takes the better part of the day and generally includes being harassed and made fun of for your efforts. You say go left... they go right. You say you can't park there... they pretend not to hear you and walk off. You say wait until the row is full before you move your car... they block up traffic pulling in and out and around to repark their car where they wanted to be in the first place.

The fastest and least likely to cause arguments way is to do it the same way Disneyland does it. You come in and fill the open row in order. That's why we usually tell people to arrive with whomever you want to park with. If we just let people park themselves, it would take hours to get in to the GTG and people would take up way more space than they need to.
