Like said above go big or go home. I had my V1 next to a $200 one (cant remember the brand) and it didnt pick up nearly as far as the valentine.
If you want one that looks cool get the last one
or save your money and get the best!
**Disclaimer**
Duberforlife does not in any way condone speeding. do so at your own risk =)

not all of us can afford the top of the line all the time as i stated before... like um i drive a jetta and not a porshe... so what would u choose if you had too...um and i drive a 2.0 so um well im slow anyway i just want something to use around the city...
UM, I drive a 2.0 to work too jackass. My 911 sits in the garage And if you ask a question, you're gonna get an hoonest answer from us. I see a reoccuring theme with you like in the other threads I've seen, no wonder you get a hard time.
Would you rather I lie to you and say a cheapo radar detector works when I know they don't and let you make up the price differance in your first ticket?
plain and simple follow the rules of the road. if you follow the posted speed limits, you dont have to worry about tickets. i dont worry about getting tickets because i dont drive like an ass

don't waste your money on cheapo radar detectors, the V1 is a nice investment, it'll be a waste of money if you go with anything else
BTW, you need a radar detector in a MK4 2.0?

look i didnt need all the comments i asked of the three which one.... i didnt ask anything else but for a choice of the three... i already said i cant afford the valentine... i didnt mean to sound like a asshole either... i wanted just a opinion which one would u want if you had to get one...
then save your money as the other three will just make you THINK you can get away with speeding untill you get a ticket.

get the first one........it looks like a pager........can be more secretive that way. It'll just look like you have a pager in the window and not a radar detector....cops don't like seeing radar detectors. go stealth....go pager style.

Honestly, I'd wait. Save more money, and get at least a used Valentine 1 off ebay, if you can't get a new one.
As far as the "drive safely and you don't need one" garbage goes:
My feeling on it is this:
We're supposed to obey the law. However...
The current freeway speed limits being enforced are illegal, according to state law and regulatory vehicle code. The road must be surveyed once every 5 years to determine what the 85% speed is, and the speed limit may not be set lower than that according to state law. However, according to Caltrans the 85% statewide in California is 82mph, and in San Diego in particular is 86mph. Yet the maximum state speed limit is currently 70mph, and in San Diego it's 65mph.
Morally I do not feel bound to obey a regulation that is illegally enforced or prescribed.
According to the DMV, in their motorcycle safety training program, it is safer to drive 1-2 mph faster than the flow of traffic, because it gives you a spatial memory of where other vehicles are, and your visual perspective is 180* forward, with limited rear perspective because of the the optical effects of mirrors. It's safer to pass another vehicle and know where it is relative to you, rather than have one come up on you from behind.
Combine those two facts and the safest speed to travel in San Diego may be upwards of 88mph. That would be of course, given the assumption that your vehicle can safely manage that speed. I get very concerned when I see an entry level honda, kia, ford, chevy, or ??? subcompact zipping along at that speed, as well as when I see a large SUV at that velocity. However, TUV approved autobahn-engineered cars that are meant to cruise at 140mph for extended lengths of time, as well as performance oriented asian and american cars that have sufficient engineering to handle and brake properly at high speeds, should be able to safely drive those speeds.
The spirit of the law with speed limit regulations is to promote safety, so morally I have no qualms with driving fast under proper conditions. It's safer driving. I'm not one to promote swerving in and out of traffic for the sake of a few mph, but if traffic is moving at 80mph then I have no ethical issues with cruising slightly faster than that.
On the non-freeway side of things, I'm a fan of obeying posted speed limits near schools, in business zones, and in residential neighborhoods. Otherwise the California Basic Speed Rule applies: you may drive as fast as conditions permit, despite posted speed limits, up to the state maximum speed limit. Conditions applicable are weather, visibility, traffic, and time of day. So on a clear sunny dry warm day with no traffic there's no legal issue with driving 65mph down a 3-lane divided road like Miramar Rd.
The trick is, the court system takes advantage of people who don't know the law, and will give citations despite their questionable legality, based on the fact that most people who get a ticket will simply pay it instead of fight it. It's revenue, pure and simple. Tickets are a huge moneymaker for local governments. So really, it's about making money. Not about public safety on the whole, otherwise ethically the court system and law enforcement would correct the laws being applied. And I'd prefer to not pay one more additional tax, thank you very much.
So back to the radar detector. It's a perfectly legal tool which helps protect me against an immoral, unethical, arbitrary and illegal enforcement of law.
I prefer Escort units over the Valentine. I have a Passport 8500 X50 in my wife's Pathfinder and an SR7 with ZR3 shifters in my M3. Both work great. You can also find both on E-Bay, I did.

ANY car can go 35 in a 25
I don't drive a Porsche either, but a V1 is mounted in my windshield.
With that sleeper you got Tracy, you might as well be driving a 911! ;)
A good quality detector is a sound investment. Cheaper than most tickets.
