I just bought an 89 16v GTI and i'm looking for some aftermarket parts. Id like to get the best brakes for a resonable price. I'm thinking of drilled and slotted fronts and not sure of the rears. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Brands and models would help greatly. I'm also looking for a strut brace if anyone nows of one for sale. Thanks.

Drilled and slotted are just for looks on a street car, that being said, stick with the brand names.

Check parts4vws.com....great place to get your stuff from.

Drilled = blah
Slotted = :tup:

I would look for G60 calipers. I think if you pick up some decent pads, the car is plenty good at braking with the 2300 curb weight.

I had a '89 GTI 16v white ;)

Yeah, your best bet, depending on what you wanna use the car for, is to put your money into the suspension and looks. My 86 (so sad its gone) was my favorite in the stable for a long time and it was only an 8v

tom ur probably right. Unless ur pushing the car really hard its not going to produce enough heat to need the slots to release the heat and gasses produced.

I like slotted rotors, but I buy them knowing that I'm paying extra for just the looks.

The biggest improvements I made with my old MK2's brakes was a 25mm master cylinder, stainless brake lines, and a good bleed.

I have a new q? My car has recaros in it and they just dont fit right. Do they usually require modification to mount or is the sliders worn out. The tracks on the car look good and even the slides look fine but im still rocking around in them anyways. Maybe i need to find a seat tray off of anoth GTI and mount that to the seats, i dont know.
