View Full Version : Ebrake Boot Removal

Okay, I just swapped out my center console as described here (http://sites.vwsport.com/fierrpawz/) to upgrade to the console with cupholders.

But instead of modifying my ebrake handle, I just bought a new one. Everything went fine except for one thing. I cannot figure out how to remove the boot from my old ebrake handle to put on to the new one.

I know it is probably something stupid that I am missing or not thinking about, but can someone help me out with this. I searched the 'tex and didn't find anything. I am still in the middle of googling it. But help would be appreciated!

TIA!

yeah. I know it's something stupid and I am probably just really tired, but i can't get it off. I sliced my finger trying to pull the damn thing off.

No prob man... All you gotta do is look underneath it with it pulled up and there should be a plastic tab you need to push flush against the e-brake assembly. At this point, just pull REALLY hard... Its gonna be a pain in the ass.

If I'm wrong, somebody please correct me...

Well I have the old handle out of the care, and I didn't see the tab when I was looking at it earlier. I will check again, but I think I will leave it for tomorrow. It's time for bed for me!

Thanks for the help!

I just took a look at the handle (damn this OCD), and I don't see the plastic tab. I am trying to feel around for it through the leather and can't feel it either (again that may be the drowsiness).

I am wondering if it might be worth avoiding the hassle if I just buy a new cover.

I have already done the switch. I have the old ebrake out and the new handle in the car. So I am trying to remove the cover from the handle while it's not connected.

So I found on ecstuning (www.ecstuning.com)'s website how to do it, but what they have described will cause me to poke a hole into the boot, which I am I do not want to do because I would obviously like to use it.

I will have try and figure out another way.

you may be able to stick a skinny screwdriver in. there is a release tab on the inside of the boot on the underside of the handle. if you cant get a screwdriver in between the handle cover and the actual lever, then yank the shit out of it. you may however break the tab and it won't stay completely secure on the new one

Thanks guys. I was able to get it off without breaking the tab. Now to take the console off again and put it on. That's ok, I can do it while I install my new sound system tomorrow.
