I believe the genre that bands like Senses Fail, Atreyu, and Hawthorne Heights fall under is 'screamo'.
'Emo' or 'emotionally-charged punk rock' usually refers to bands like Sunny Day Real Estate, Guided By Voices, or The Get Up Kids.

atreyu is "new metal" and i personally would categorize three days grace as screamo, and senses fail i think are hardcore
i do agree on the emo part though, and don't forget about bright eyes, the smiths, blah blah cry cry, then cut myself. sometimes i see these kids walking around and i just want to slap them to really give them something to cry about.

i own wiretap scars and porcelin, thier ok. alot of bands out are sounding like them now so it's kind of losing appeal
i think i am generally unhappy with the state of rock music as a whole right now. so i have reverted back to not buying cd's for a while and listening to old shit like bad religion, social distortion, johnny cash, chemical brothers, and i got into this band "midnight movies". that way i will be ready for new stuff when i get bored of my same old shit.

Atreyu is not "nu metal." They aren't "metal" at all. "Nu Metal" is like Seether and KoRn and all that lot.
Senses Fail is no where near hardcore. Try listening to Comeback Kid, Bane, The Warriors, Misery Signals, War of Ages, etc... and tell me that Senses Fail comes even close to what they play.
As for the whole "emo" thing. It's a style of music. A lot of music that is out today is influenced by older "emo" bands. The fact that someone sings about breaking up DOES NOT make them "emo." Bands like My Chemical Romance ARE NOT "emo."

I just recently moved out here to CA. I don't really know where places are, plus i have gotten away from going to shows. I moved here from the east coast and it was cool to go to all the legendary places in like dc and nyc, like the black cat in dc and cbgb is ny, but I found myself conent with just listening at home and in the car etc. sometimes I get out but it has to be the right mood and the right band and the right atmosphere. alot of the time you run into those scene kids, and I don't really like them. soo
